DH may be in El Paso for work, and I could join him Thursday night and then we can head to Big Bend National Park for the weekend. The only problem is that it will be June, and from what I'm reading on line, it's not a particular good time to go. This is due to the heat, I suppose. Has anyone done this NP in June?

We would stay in the accomodations within the park, and really would have Friday night and all day Saturday to enjoy the park. What do you think?

It is my hobby to visit as many National Parks as I can, I have one of the Passports and it brings me much pleasure to go back and see the dates and reminisce.

Better June than July or August. I'd say go for it. You already know that it will be hot so just go prepared. I've never been that far south but it's already in the 90's here.

wow! brings back memories. I did Big Bend,,Memorial weekend eons ago but we did it in a tent! We arrived after dark and had a heck of a time putting up the tent and setting up camp. When we woke up in the morning I just stood there with my mouth open since we were in the middle of the cavern and the mountain walls were all around us. It was beautiful. HOT but beautiful!
Enjoy

DW & I have the Passport as well. Keep on collecting those cancellation stamps! Gotta love it :cool1:

Thank you for the encouragement! We made the ressies, and I went to the library for more information. What I found was that, although the trip to/from Big Bend NP would be possible for us from El Paso, the lodging is in the middle of the huge park, and we would have to leave at least by 3 AM on Sunday for us to make the plane that starts our journey home.

Both DH and I are the type of people that like to be at the airport in plenty of time, and this early morning trip would be too stressful.

The lodging person said that El Paso was so many miles from Big Bend, what they don't say is how many miles it is from El Paso to the lodging!

I am so glad that I took a long look at the map in the book and realized what I was seeing. However, it is a trip I/we do want to make eventually, we just need more than a 2 night 3 day weekend.

That's too bad. However, White Sands and Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico are not as far. White Sands is a national monument and Carlsbad Caverns is a national park. You might consider visiting one or both of them.

We visited Guadaloupe Mountain NP and Carlsbad Caverns on a previous trip. That was a great day, we experienced lots of different climates on that single trip.

Thank you for the suggestions. We'll think about doing White Sands. I see that there are state parks, museums to visit as well. DH is on his way to Brownsville TX right now, and I'll run some of these suggestions by him when we talk.

Bobbi :)
