Biergarten?

We've done both and prefer lunch. The only reason we did dinner one year was because we were on the dining plan. If you aren't on the dining plan, lunch is a better deal. There were only a few additions at dinner that weren't worth the extra cost. Lunch isn't generally as busy, which is nice when going through a buffet line. Dinner was packed, so there wasn't a lot of elbow room around the tables or the buffet line. Lunch is a more relaxed atmosphere. Dinner was very boisterous.

We have done both and it's pretty much the same. Lunch is cheaper which is great if you are paying OOP.

Dinner for us...Sauerbraten was not on the lunch buffet and I love Sauerbraten

Go to Biergarten for lunch at the latest time you can book lunch. If you are leisurely, the dinner items will be put on the buffet while you are there and you'll only need one meal and a snack for the day.

Depends upon what you're looking for. We were there in July '09 for lunch and - while the food was awesome - it was a huge disappointment because the restaurant was virtually dead, which mean the "atmosphere" was dead. I'd heard such great things about the dancing and audience participation with the band, and we experienced none of that...and that's the whole reason I booked it.

The food truly was outstanding, so the next time we go we'll go for dinner.

I LOVE the Biergarten, so either time is good for me! But since it is buffet you can load up and probably make it the rest of the day without needing to eat, so I agree with the later lunch option. Plus 2 liter steins and you won't need to drink anymore either :P
