Biergarten with picky kids??

I have always wanted to eat in the Biergarten restaurant and I think we will this trip in Dec. The deciding point is whether or not my way-too-picky children can have typical WDW kids meals instead of the buffet (chicken strips, hot dog). I also wondered about purchasing a kids meal for them at the American pavillion and bringing them in if they restaurant wouldn't frown on that.

IF anyone knows about doing this, please let me know.

It's been six years since we did Biergarten, but they didn't have any kids food at that time. It may have changed, though. My son had a horrible time finding something that he liked.

Our DD (9 years old) would only eat the rolls in the table basket at Biergarten. She is picky but will usually find something she's willing to eat like pasta or plain meat. At Biergarten, there was just nothing she would even touch! This was last July so I doubt if the menu has changed much.

Biergarten does not have the standard children's fare that the other buffets do. I am not sure about taking food in. It seems like they may frown on that.

My DH loves this place and my kids usually find a couple of things that they will eat. I am not big into German food but I do recommend the desserts!

We went to the Biergarten in October 2001 with DS 11 and DS 8 - I had the same concerns but my DM really wanted to try it out. My kids who are pretty picky were able to have a pretty good meal - and DS still talks about the little meatballs! There were some plain noodles and some pretty plain types of meat that they could try...don't give up!!

This has me concerned as my wife and I want to eat here on our next trip. The 2003 Unofficial Guide states this about Biergarten: "Additionally, you'll have no problems finding items that the kids will eat." Doesn't sound true according to what's being said here.

A question about Biergarten. The Unofficial Guide also states you eat at long tables. Is it "cafeteria" style and you eat with others at your table or do you have your own?

Yes, they are long tables with people from other parties around you. We had a couple on one side and a family on the other. Didn't turn out to be a problem. The couple was from Germany and we had a nice conversation with them. The family was from somewhere in the US and didn't say 'Boo' to anyone! (They barely conversed with the waitress.)

I think all my dd's ate at our last visit to Biergarten was the roasted chicken - which is very good. If they were serving spaetzle they might have eaten that too (noodles) They did like the desserts too! It is not the most child friendly food wise but it is a lot of fun. They do sit you at a table with other people in the German tradition. The first time I ate there with DH we had been home from Germany for less than a year and sat with another military family that had also been in Germany - that was fun!

my kids love the food there so for us it's never been a problem. However I do remember that they alway have hot dogs (no buns) along with other sausages. If you can get them to try the potato dumplings they would probably like those if they are use to the typical white and beige "kids meal" diet. The spatzel noodles have a different texture than basic noodles so that is iffy too.
On our first trip the family that was seated with us had one child that wouldn't eat so they took him for pizza after. I also seem to remember seeing someone bring in a kids meal.

I went here with two kids. My daughter would not eat the hot dogs because they were mixed in with the saurcraut and my Uncle's granddaughter only ate a roll..... They liked the entertainment though..... My idea would be to bring in food for them.....

I'm sure they will not have a problem with bringing in food from some other place in the park. We plan on doing that at San Angel Inn. They do not have anything DD likes so I called and they said I could bring what ever I wanted. I'm going to pick up an Uncrustable at our resort and take it with us. If we didn't do this most of the time we wouldn't be able to eat anywhere! No restaurant should frown on it as they are getting your business and what loss is it to them if you bring in something for kid. Go for it!

We were there with 2 very picky 9 year olds in June. Surprisingly this was one of their favorite restaurants. They liked the chicken, rolls, and sausage.

I would walk thru the buffet with your child before ordering. If he/she doesn't see anything they like, then tell the hostess that you would like to bring food in. I'm sure it would be okay.
