Biergarten returning to buffet

Seems unsafe to be going to Buffet with Delta rampant.

Really the eating places are the most susceptible to transmitions because everyone has their masks off and are eating and talking with mouths wide open.
People are free to choose what level of risk they want to accept in their life. No one is forced to go to WDW or to a buffet. If a person feels unsafe, they should stay at home and wear a mask. Personal choice is what makes our country a great place to live. I chose not to go to a family style meal on our last trip because the value wasn't there. I made a Biergarten reservation for October right after they announced the buffet was returning. I'm willing to accept the "unsafe" conditions that a buffet brings.

COVID isn't a food borne disease and there is no evidence anyone has contracted it from contaminated food.

So, the buffet format itself shouldn't worry anybody.
Except last time I was there the line for the buffet was long with people squished together and sometimes lined up out to the tables.
Personally I'm disappointed. We aren't going back until COVID is down and kids can be vaccinated since no one cares about protecting the vulnerable anymore, but with several little kids, the food being brought to me sounded lovely! Much better then having to balance many plates and kids through a crowd.

I agree - I really liked family style Biergarten. Especially with kids who had to be persuaded to try new food - and then asked for more meatballs and ate the entire platter the server brought!

I'm sure to get flamed for saying this but... is it prudent for "the vulnerable" to be at a crowded theme park in the first place? Even with more stringent prevention measures in place (e.g., masks were required at all times the last two times we were there), going to WDW (or any theme park) is a relatively high risk activity where COVID is concerned. Individuals who are more vulnerable probably shouldn't be going back yet, no matter how many additional requirements are in place at the time.

I get that and we honestly won't go yet and didn't intend to. I'm planning August when we should all be able to be vaccinated as our last Disney trip for the foreseeable future. I'm just frustrated as a doctor who treats COVID to see all the laxity as cases rise plus, I'm tired of being able to go literally nowhere for years when some places could greatly decrease risk if they chose.

Has there been any studies/reports on how "relatively high risk activity" going to WDW is? Looking at the football stadiums for a Saturday game seems to be a high risk.

That assessment was strictly a non-scientific characterization based on it being a crowded location with guests from all over the country.

I would also clarify that by "high risk" I'm not saying that there's a big chance of catching COVID at WDW, but just that your risk of exposure is much greater there than staying at home away from others. Attending a theme park (or a football game) is an activity that I would avoid if I considered myself to be among "the vulnerable."

I'm all in favor of protecting the vulnerable, but the best way to protect them is for them to avoid theme parks, etc. If I'm walking around outside without a mask on (which is allowed) at WDW, it's not because I don't care about "the vulnerable." I trust "the vulnerable" to not put themselves in the position of being at a ballgame or theme park where they are at higher risk.

Whether eating at a buffet or not is also higher risk is anyone's guess. I suppose the buffet line might be closer quarters than sitting at your own table.

Sorry, again we aren't going as it's not safe but perhaps I used the wrong word... By vulnerable, I was including children who can't be vaccinated yet... As Disney has chosen to run things and sadly many other places too, no, I guess children shouldn't go to Disney anymore...?

That’s for parents to decide not for you to decide for them.

If you deem WDW too risky for your unvaccinated children then I fully support you not bringing your kids there. If you deem buffets or restaurants in general as being too risky then I will never laugh at you for not eating out. Everyone has to decide for THEMSELVES what level of risk they are comfortable with. Unfortunately Covid-19 is not going away and will be something we have to live with like the flu. The WHO just said the same thing so we will all have to strap our feet to the pedals because we are not getting off this bike.

If anyone is curious, we did go on 9/6. They were only seating one party per table while I was there, and tables felt a bit more spaced out than last time we were there (pre-COVID). There were negligible buffet lines. Food was great! Service was, too! I forgot we were talking about liters, not pints, and accidentally ordered a beer bigger than my head, but that was my bad lol

I am never a fan of buffets regardless of Covid. I am disappointed as I was considering trying this and Chef Mickeys while they were family style! I do understand that so many people love this buffet and others, so I am sure many will be happy with the change.

Has Chef MIckeys returned to a buffet? That would be such a shame, the reviews of the family style meal are excellent, and the buffet was never good.
