Hi all! My group will be going to Biergarten for the candlelight dining package at lunch. Some are a bit concerned that beer will too accessible (?).

We don’t want to change restaurants but I’m just trying to verify - beer must be ordered and is an extra charge, right?

You absolutely do not have to order beer at Biergarten. Where did you hear this?!

I hope I didn't give that impression. Some in the party were just concerned that it would be too free-flowing or accessible. Not that we would have to order beer. It's been many years since I've been, but I'm looking forward to the food and atmosphere. :)

I think the op is asking if you have to order it rather than it just being at your table, as part of the meal. That I should how I am understanding.

Yes, that's what I meant. And I know it's communal seating so there will likely be beer around. Some folks in the group were just concerned about pitchers sitting there for the taking.

No, they don't serve pitchers of beer at Biergarten. They serve beer flights, 1/2 liters and liters and they are not meant to be shared. There will be no pitchers of beer or empty glasses sitting around to pour beer into. I've eaten at Biergarten 3 times and only once was I even seated next to someone who was drinking beer.

How many people are in your group?

Just edited to add: yes, beer HAS to be ordered and it's an extra cost. There isn't beer just sitting on tables.

Thank you for the thorough reply. That'll help out some folks in our party (3) feel more comfortable. I've only been once, and that was a decade ago. So I couldn't remember. Appreciate it!

As others said, your party does not have to order beer and pitchers are not sold.

But as you said you already know the seating is communal. They will try to fill all the seats at the table. So you may have others at your table drinking beer ... and with flights, 1/2 liter and full liters ............... it can mean lots of beer sitting on the table. Our group always has beer and since the restaurant is a very popular place with folks who enjoy beer ... there is a good chance of beer at the table. Just in case it being on the table is of concern. Now what you could do is put those who are concerned at one end of the table with the others next to the strangers.

As many times as we've been I've never seen an excessive amount of beer on the tables. People have their individual orders but no pitchers or anything like that.
