I'm interested in going to Biergarten on our next trip (DH LOVES beer and German food!!!) and of course the price is much more expensive for dinner than for lunch. Is there a significant difference in the offerings/experience at one meal versus the other? The menus online seem to be the same for both. So for those that have done both - does dinner merit the extra $$$?

I say no. We went there last summer for the first time and will not return. Many people here love the food and atmosphere, but we enjoyed neither.

I would say save the money and go for lunch. That way if you have an experience like we did you won't be as disappointed.

We generally visit the Biergarten every trip. It has lots of plusses and some minuses.

The lunch buffet is similar enough to the dinner, so I would book a late lunch and save some money.

Plusses: Great beer in huge mugs. Good cheesecake. Fun entertainment. One of my favorite restaurants in regards to atmosphere.

Minuses: Not a big fan of the german food. You have to share tables with other families. It is a little weird. BUT, I always go with big groups and have my own table.

I liked it a lot better when lunch was $21.00 and I would never pay $40.00 for dinner at Biergarten.

I agree, i'd go for lunch since your paying out-of-pocket. The difference between lunch/dinner is minimal. It wouldnt be worth spending all that extra $ just for a couple of extra dishes. I honestly didnt think the food was spectacular. Glad i went, but i dont think i'll be back for a while.

We enjoy Biergarten and pay OOP. The dinner buffet has a few more dishes but it's basically the same.

The restaurant is more subdued during the day than the evening. We prefer the rowdier evening beer drinking atmosphere.

We have only been for dinner, so I can't speak for lunch. We go every trip and the whole family loves it. :thumbsup2

a small difference between the meals. It has been awhile since we have eaten there, but dinner added a roulade and sauerbraten. I love good sauerbraten so it was usually dinner for use. Now I have a place a couple of miles from the house that has good sauerbraten, so lunch works for us (and our checking account).

As pp said, rouladen and sauerbraten are only at dinner. I want to point out these are both beef dishes, both very good, and if you prefer beef to pork and chicken, well worth the extra money.I love it all, and am usually on the dining plan, so it's always dinner for me.
Also, 1 pp pentioned the cummunal seating as if it were a bad thing. It's one of my favorite things about Biergarten. I've been seated with many interesting people. Once we were put with a very drunk young man who was 'shipping out' in the morning, but since we were single guys, that was all right with us.
