Please tell me about the Beirgarten. Do you have to eat to hang out here?
What entertainment is there?

The CMs will let you 'peek' inside to see what is on the buffet, seating arrangements, etc. But you will need to dine in order to see the entertainment for any length of time.

I believe that it is hourly, don't have a schedule. Basically an oompahpah band with singers, alpen horn, and dancing. Typical tourist fare :teeth: (spoken by someone who had a May pole and beer garden next to their home in Bavaria....)

You will be seated at a table which seats 6-8 (can't remember) with strangers. The buffet was actually quite good; I found several veggie items. The CM was really sweet - I think that she was just relieved to be able to revert back to German when speaking with me (I ordered the drinks for our party, etc)

Note that there is other entertainment in the courtyard area of the German pavilion as well, if you are looking for that type of thing.

Bavaria -- sounds as though you'd recommend it? I'm of German descent, I sorely miss the German restaurants that were plentiful in the Chicago area where I grew up, and I've travelled (happily!) to several places in Germany. I wouldn't say I'm an expert, but I do love German food and atmosphere. I'd love to try the Biergarten on our next trip in December -- I'm not particularly concerned that it be "authentic" (I love Disney!) but I'd hate for DH and DS to have a poor view of German food and fun, since it would be their first/only exposure.

Thanks for your thoughts!

My family was originally German (ok, so it's been since 1760 something!) and my father was born in Germany (army brat), so I've had my fair share of German food and love the Beirgarten. They do a chichen schnitzel that is fantastic. :goodvibes

Thanks for the good word! We'll try a dinner there in December.

My family enjoyed Biergarten SOOOO much last February that we're going back again on Feb 16th,2006

Can't wait :hourglass

iluvwesties (aka Carol) :wave2:

I'm not one to recommend german food :confused3 too much pork, cabbage, and onions in my childhood! (I even trained in the kitchen in Germany, but can't rave about german food)

But I did like my meal there - tomato salad, cucumber salad, potatoes, bread, dessert.

I think DS9 could overlook the smell of sauerkraut, etc, if he thought the show was funny...he loves all kinds of comedy! Any opinions?

Not funny at all - but definitely entertaining. By the way, tables seat 8, whether or not your party does!

I thought it was pretty authentic -- there was even vanilla sauce for the strudel, although some other folks tried to tell me that wasn't so, until the CM said so. And I love the sauerkraut!

We love Biergarten, we eat there every trip. My kids (preschoolers) love the show. They have delicious bread. We took my parents on our last trip, and my dad who's travelled extensively in Germany loved it. I would definitely recommend trying it.

My DH LOVES German food..we went in October & it was great. The kids found soemthing to eat & loved the entertainment. Planning on dining there again this year's trip.

We went with a group of 10 ( 6 adults/4 kids)
Kids danced on the dance floor, parents sang along with Omm Paa Paa Band. Entertainment was very uplifting, energetic, fun fun fun!
The Buffet had lots and lots to choose from, kids ate great, they all had plenty to chose from. Adults indulged and we all agreed it was actually quite delicious.
We all agreed it was a great choice of restaurant and we'd go back again, We all liked the idea of having a yummy dinner with an entertaining show to watch! Without it being one of Disney's Signature Dinner Shows ( There isn't any other restaurants that offer entertainment with your meal)
Try it and Enjoy ! :cheer2: :earboy2:

Biergarten is one of our favorites. We go there every trip. We found it the first trip and have gone everytime since. The food is pretty good, but the Oompah band is a lot of fun. We always make an ADR for return visits when we go down!

My family spent 10 years in Germany and none of us were impressed by the Biergarten of the 3 times we've been there. The band is entertaining and yes, touristy, but that's to be expected. The food was "eh" compared with what we grew up with (and what I make at home). It was OK, but not what we'd even call good. We did NOT like eating at a table with other guests, but that's just us. We don't drink and I, personally, don't like my children being forced to sit with people who are getting schnockered on liters of beer. Our waitresses have also been "typically brusque", one was downright rude when we spoke German to her. After our last visit, we decided not to even try it anymore, but stick with Marrakesh instead.

Restaurant Marrakesh in Morocco has entertainment for dinner also. There is usually a small band and a bellydancer.

We really enjoyed eating there. I for one and not a sausage or kraut fan and I really liked it. They had enough variety.

One of the highlights of our trips. Have not missed a meal in Germany yet! It's a riot to look at the tape and pictures of the kids dancing. In fact we have whole scrapbook page with only all of our dinners in Germany. We'll Be there April 18th!
