Bidding wars on a TV show

"* Buena Vista TV has kicked off a bidding war for off-network rerun rights to the hit ABC (nyse: DIS - news - people) sitcom "My Wife & Kids," and Tribune (nyse: DIS - news - people) stations won the auction over Fox (nyse: DIS - news - people) <NCP.AX> stations in the first five markets to close on the deal. The stations can start playing the series five times a week in the fall of 2005. Buena Vista has retained the right to sell the sitcom to a cable network in year four, setting up a shared window with TV syndication.

I've enjoyed 'My Wife and Kids'... on the other hand, 'Home Improvement' wore on me after the first season. I also like 'Less than Perfect.' The first couple of episodes were pretty run-of-the-mill-blah, but it's really started to develop its own pace. I did not expect to like it at all. '8 Simple Rules' and 'According to Jim' (The Frank Stallone Show), however, I could live without. I love Bonnie Hunt, and I have tuned in every time she has had a show over the last 10 years... but 'Life with Bonnie' has had a hard time... I want to like it, but it rarely meets my expectations (although Jonathan Winters did a really great guest spot.)
I have enjoyed 'Dragnet' thus far. This week's episode took too long to get moving, and ended at about the middle of the story... but I like the pacing and the feel of the show. At times, the dialogue is very reminiscent of the original.

So there you have it, Steve doesn't like everything that ABC has to offer (in fact, I HATE the "reality" shows... eck!), but he may be willing to give it more of a chance than other people. A flaw? Perhaps, but it could be worse... What if ABC were UPN?
