My DW and I are going home for the first time in DEC. We love to take our bikes with us when we travel. Can you get around to resorts by Bike? Read a post recently about a trail from OKW toward Epcot resorts. Is it possible to get to Epcot from OKW or to DD from BWV?:p

That's a good question, I have wondered this myself. I commute by bike to work almost every day, and would love to take my bike with me. The bikes you can rent are not really that great, heavy single speeds, and I wonder if they would allow you to rent one to ride to the parks. WDW doesn't look so bike friendly, no shoulders or paths and not really a place to lock up the bikes at the parks. How many times can you ride around the lake at BW-Y&BC?

I'm not sure about riding to/from the parks. However, when we were recently at OKW, we rented one of the surrey bikes and we were told that we could not take them out of the resort area. So, I would guess that applies to the other areas that rent as well, but I could be wrong.

What we really would like to do is get to the other resorts. BW area and FW would be great if we could get there from OKW. We own Mountain Bikes, any trails would be prefered to road riding.  :p

I participated on the Mount Dora Bicycle Festival for five years and stayed always at OKW. Once, when we did not have a security booth at the resort entrance I decided to strech my legs along the four lanes road that goes between OKW and what was before Port Orleans and Dixie Landings. I tought it was appropiate. I was stopped by a Security WDW van and encouraged to stop riding and I was told (forced) to return to OKW at once. I was informed that WDW road were not bicycle friendly (no sidewalks) and riding was not welcome. But I had no problem riding inside OKW resort roads to check my gear for trouble or warm up a bit before leaving to Mount Dora. BTW, WDW used to have an organized bicycle ride starting from Tampa and disgratefully ending in a remote parking lot corner of one of the parks. They organized it for two years. So forget about riding to the parks or around the lake at BoardWalk.

There is a hiking trail between Wilderness Lodge and Ft Wilderness campground. It's paved, maybe 6 feet wide, and goes through the woods. Only about a mile long though. I've seen bicyclists on it, probably from Ft. Wilderness. You could also bike around Ft. Wilderness.

It's OK if you're staying at WL or FW, but I wouldn't go out of my way from BW to go there and ride a bike.

There's also the trail from OKW resort to DD. You could probably ride a bike on that.
