I want to take my 4 year old DD to BBB, but I've read that they pull their hair into very tight ponies and buns to do the hairstyles. Are all of the styles like that, or is there one that is better than the others? My DD has really fine hair that just comes right out if it's pulled too hard, I'd hate to have her in pain or or have to take the style out right after it's done.

I don't think there is a choice of hair style. The put it up in a really tight pony/bun (depending on the length of hair). There is a BBB super thread listed in the stickies.

From everything I have seen all the styles start with that tight ponytail. My daughter has really fine & thin hair but it doesn't pull out that easily so I don't know about that. They use a soft bristle brush (I think of them as static brushes). I think you could call and talk to someone about your concerns. When I booked our appt the lady was very informed and helped answer a lot of my questions.

They do pull their hair very tightly! My dd3 tried to be tuff but she gave in and was crying. I could tell that it was really hurting her.

My daughter HATES even getting her hair brushed because she's so tender headed and her hair is so fine. However, I made sure to tell the girl, and they did a fabulous job with her, making sure they were as gentle as possible. She LOVED it.

They do get in a tight ponytail/bun, but I think "pull" might be the wrong word. For me at least, that equates to pain and it wasn't painful at all to my girls who did it last summer. The ladies were both very gentle and took their time to get it completely smooth (which took some doing since me girls have a lot of really thick hair!). They also use a lot of gel/hairspray to give it that tight/finished look.

Thanks, I think we'll try it and just ask them to be extra gentle. I scheduled the package with the nails and hair first thing in the morning, about how long does it take to finish?

This may be a silly question, but did your kids go in the pool after they had this done? I'm afraid if we do this, our mid-afternoon pool breaks will be toast as my daughters will be afraid of ruining their hair... :cutie:

NewbieMouse, I was concerned about the same thing! We ended up making reservations for a 3pm appt. so DD would still be pretty much put together for our dinner at Ariel's Grotto (6pm). I figured a few hours as a princess and getting to be one at the princess dinner would be enough for her. I know if we did the appt. in the morning DD (who will be 5 when we go in early June) would be messed up by afternoon. Especially since she'll be having fun at Disneyland.

If your DD is picky about getting her hair done, you might let her take a look at a couple of pictures of the hair on the boards before you go and spend the money for BBB. On my DD's 1st WDW trip at 2 years 10 months, she took one look at the tight hairstyles on the little girls who had been to WDW's BBB and said "I'm not ever letting them do that to my hair!" She is 4 now and has been to WDW 2 more times and she has never changed her mind. She is a big Princess fanatic too.

I can't speak for swimming as we didn't do it on the trip we took them to BBB, but I can promise with the amount of product they put in, their hair will not be messed up by the end of the day just from being at Disneyland. My girls had their hair done first thing in the morning, played all day at Disneyland, slept with it in and woke up in the morning with their perfectly in tact! They do a good job!
