:jester: Planning on the Buffalo, NY area to DisneyLand for the 50th. Going to drive (Have done this 3 other times but not with family). Will be the 3 of us. Son will be 11.
Starting to make plans now. Any ideas, suggestions? Plan to stop along the way but majority of vacation will be DisneyLand, Universal, Knotts.
Been to WDW many times but want son to experience DisneyLand. (Wife and I want to go back also).
Thanks ahead of time for replies.

Well, because you didn't ask about anything specific, I will just give you a general opinion. :)

For the DL Resort I recommend 3 days - 2 at DL, 1 at DCA, more if you have time. Universal should be combined with a night at CityWalk (their version of Downtown Disney.) Knott's can be done in one day - make sure to get their chicken!

A question for you, though - how long does the drive take? We had discussed (my dad, brother and me) going on a road trip to the NYC area (I know it's not Buffalo, but could you give me an estimate perhaps?)

If you have any more questions as your planning continues, feel free to ask.

I would suggest doing Knotts BEFORE Disneyland. Many people have done Disneyland, then Knotts and have left mid day because they are to different and the "magic" of Disneyland is so much more magical.

How long are you planning for the drive/Disney/Knotts/Universal? Do you have a sort of map in mind? The Grand Canyon is very beautiful if you can map a drive by there either coming or going. May be nice to drive thru Las Vegas and see the lights on the strip. It's about 4 hours out of Anaheim on the way one way or the other.

I would reccomend the northern route one way and the southern the other.

The northern route is the one I have done and it is I-80. Goes past Great Lakes, then once across the Mississippi follows the route of the Oregon Trail. Lots of incredible history to see, old forts, Chimney Rock, Salt Lake City. In some spots you can still see the wheel ruts left over 100 years ago. Just amazing. You go through Salt Lake City and then could go down towards Las Vegas and LA. Went through South Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, etc. The Wild wild west.

I have not done the southern route but it can go past the Grand Canyon and then through the southern states and cut back up.

Have fun and with an 11 year old there is so much to be learned and studied in such a hands on fun way.

And that before you even get to the "fun" stuff!
