Beyond the Construction wall

wow! those photos really drive home how big the expansion is, and how much WALL I'm going to see next month!

Ah that makes more sense. Looking at your map I think there was a larger "tree buffer" between the playful spot and the railroad that they have torn down.

Thanks!

You have to remember that the 20,000 leagues under the sea attraction was back there.

That area used to be the 20K leagues attraction.

The green roofed structure in the one photo was the loading/unloading area for 20,000 Leagues. I spent a lot of time in that line as a kid. :thumbsup2 It was not a great ride but I miss it. The ride took up alot of space that is for sure.

I do remember standing at the fence that was around the lagoon on hot summer days wishing we could just jump in the 20,000 Leagues "pool". It looked so cool and inviting. ;):) Always thought it would be a great pool to play in. Though a bit deep. And no zero entry. :scared1::)

The photos of the construction are sad but hopeful.

Very cool and interesting photos. We were at WDW twice over the summer, and I was shocked at how much things changed within a matter of weeks. I know it would be virtually impossible to prevent, but I'm surprised at how "accessible" the progress is - between the train and Dumbo, it's easier than I would've expected to get a peek. We have some progressive photos of Everest's growth and Wizarding World over at Universal, and it's neat to have them to compare.

Of course, maybe that will change with scaffolding and stuff when the construction begins on recognizable landmarks, but I hope not - I love seeing the progress!!

Thanks for the photos! I suppose the big mound of dirt is the beginning of the Little Mermaid attraction?

No, the Mermaid attraction is actually behind the dirt pile in the back corner of expansion. It's just the foundation right now, but might be going vertical soon.

I have the pic I posted earlier (left), alongside a Spring 2010 comparison photo (right). This shows construction in transition from former 20,000 Leagues under the Sea, to Pooh's Playful Spot and Ariel's Grotto, to major construction area. More recent pics in this thread show that the greenery is now gone, there's been a lot of earth moving, some concrete foundation work is in, plus that huge dirt pile. It sure is a large area. I really look forward to all the new things!

The red line indicates the fence. I have shown where Pooh's Playful Spot was, also Ariel's Grotto. I have also shown where the Pooh Tree was moved to, in front of the Winnie the Pooh ride. When the Pooh Tree is unwrapped and opened again, look inside above the doorway, there is a "defect" in the wooden door frame. Look at it closely, it is the Nautilus! A tribute from the Imagineers to the old beloved ride. There are a few pictures of this that can be posted.

Nice shots...I did the same thing back in April shortly after the wall went up. I wanted to ride Dumbo just to get the pictures...Unfortunately I went and got video first, and Dumbo is such a ridiculously short ride, I didn't get my camera out in time before they were lowering us down. We'll be there in a little over a month (be riding Dumbo first thing on Oct 19th...no I don't plan that obsessively, it's just we only ride Dumbo once, at rope drop, on our first MK day...so that's how I know that) and I will try and get some pictures this time.

If you install Google Earth you see the progression of the area from when the water for 20k leagues under the sea was still there.

It has a timeline feature where you can see different shots of the same area through time.
