I can never understand why we humans feel so compelled to kill things just because they "scare" us. Chances are that the spider was harmless and you could have just as easily put it outside rather than take its life. I am amazed at humanity...........it is rarely "humane".

I know we shouldn't be just squishing/killing the poor things. But, human nature is just that. Human nature. I actually get quite paralyzed at the sight of those big ole hairy black spiders. I know, in my brain, that they are probably more afraid of me than i of them. But, in my whackiness, I have given them all sorts of 'super-spider' abilities!!! Like jumping 30', into my hair, or scurrying across 10' of floor only to crawl up my leg!! I know, it's just not going to happen. I do try to live and let live. Now, a funny spider story.......about 2 months ago, I went down my basement stairs to pick up my dd's play room. There, at the bottom of the stairs was a huge black hairy spider. He looked maybe dead, I didn't know. Now, I didn't really want to get close enough to double-check. So, I grabbed a huge pail and dumped it over on top of the 'thing'. Waited for dh to get home so he could deal with it. (See...I didn't kill it!!) Well....he goes down, picks up the pail and tells me it's just our old Halloween joke spider!!! The cat had found it someplace and was playing with it!!! Did I feel a little silly?? Oh yeah.

I think your "humanity" is over the top. Here in Florida, at least, the bites of certain spiders are always SERIOIUS and sometimes FATAL. Sorry about the snow Marie - it will be about 80 day - 35 minutes from WDW. Barbara

Ewwww! I had a spider in MY sink not too long ago!!! He suffered the same fate as yours! I really really don't like spiders!

Warning!!!!

The sink drain is also connected to the toilet

Oh yeah, putting the spider out in the snow to turn into a spidercicle is humane..lol

So.....let me get this straight............scalding it and sending it down the drain IS humane? Yeah, right........

I was bitten by a "harmless" Brown Recluse and spent alot of time in the hospital because of it. I kill any spider in sight now!::yes::

Didn't say it was - just saying it was a no win situation between your solution or Pumba's

Since we are on the topic of "bugicide", you might be murdering countless innocent spiders and bugs when you step on them as you walk to your car to go to work. :p ;)

Of course you could say it was accidental - you didn't realize it - but now you know! Time to install that zip line from the door to the car! :teeth: ;)

MY way was fast and furious........down that drain with hot scalding water.......where as if I (yah right in someones dreams) scooped him up and put him outside.....he would of suffered a death of slowly freezing to death and would not have been able to move.....Now MY sink is not attached to the toilet......but I will look every once in a while just to make sure......
HEY I used to yell BUG and my darliing doggie would come and look for it and then kill it for me.......protein you know....

I can't stand spiders or any type of bugs, so guess I am not humane either - stomp and flush here - unless it is a crickett that I can chase out of the house

Chances are

You take your chances then, because when I see a spider I'm going to kill it....well actually, I'll more than likely have it killed. Along with hating spiders and snakes and bugs, I also have an aversion to doing the dirty work myself.

I'm not a "catch and release" person when it comes to bugs in my house. If it comes in my house and then has the audacity to show itself, that is it's last mistake...

I hate big spiders!

I still haven't recovered from taking a flower vase out from under the sink and filling it up with water. I was waiting for the thing to fill up when these HUGE legs started appearing. This massive spider plopped into the sink when the vase overflowed, I have never turned the hot water tap on so fast in my life before! :p

...and to think I was so close to touching it too!

Once while she was doing dishes a scorpion crawled up the drain and spooked the wife.

All I heard was "KILL IT!!! KILL IT!!!!"

So I got a rag and squished it (Gotta be quick with scorpions, they jump).

And instead of the wife going...."Oh. My hero!" she goes...."~eeeeew~"

I usually leave spiders alone IF I know for sure it's a harmless kind or if it's not one of those big things. If one showed up in my sink, I'm afraid that I'd also see it going down the drain.
