Beware the rip off............

:lmao::lmao: I must say that I love to have a look in the shops at the WS but we hardley ever buy anything!

I think that people being offended or embarrassed by the shops selling footbal shirts is a bit silly, as a PP said football is a huge part of the British culture so they are going to sell it there, why do they have fish and chips? - huge Brit tradition - brings in the $$$ I also recall them seling cricket whites in the UK shop but no one is complaining about that! ;)

Wasn't it the late, great Bill Shankly who said "football is like religion, only more important"?

I was once told you can tell a brit by their football shirt and carrier bag. Lol. It didn't offend me, found it quite funny actually.

Reminds me last year when we flew from Newark to Manchester there was an elderly man in our row of 3 on the plane with a Tesco carrier bag and we immediately thought BRIT! Well technically he was but he was actually a US citizen, had a US passport and had been living in Texas for over 20 years! We wondered if the bag was a souvenir from his last visit 'home' ;)

The "pint" served from the rose and crown and the beer cart outside served in the white and red plastic cups with each of the parks logos on is a 20oz serving, which is just over a UK Pint I beleive- I am not sure of the glasses inside the pub, I got a feeling they were a little smaller.

I never feel ripped off with the beer prices in Epcot- remember they are on times importing the beer directly themselves, there is not many places in Florida you can get carlsburg or becks or harp on draft - they may be familer brands to us, but they are def not to our American friends. The prices are clearly displayed on the carts and include tax - how can that be a rip off, if you dont like dont buy! A Disney holiday is hardly a place to go for a drinking holiday. The cost probably does put people off buying more than a few drinks, which is exactly what Disney wants. A park full of drunk adults is not nice - go to Universal Halloween nights and see for yourself!

Where did Carlsberg beer originate? Denmark.
where did harp beer originate? Ireland.
where did beeks beer originate? Germany
The true English beers are not lagers which mainly originated on the continent. But the bitters, milds and ciders which are all sold in the rose and crown:thumbsup2

Where's the true English drink then? Mead? :rotfl::rotfl:

We have just paid 22euros for a gin and tonic in Barcelona and 9 euros for a lemonade in Paris, makes Disney look cheap !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well carlsburg is in the demark pavillion and becks in germany agree not sure where harp fits in but all of these are unfamiler to americans and you could say justify the premium price they charge

I like that Dunkel Beer they sell in the Germany pavilion, and the Japanese beer in Japan, and the Dos XX in Mexico, oh and that Moosehead Pale Ale in Le Cellier.... :thumbsup2

I believe the actual words were

“Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I assure you, it's much more serious than that.”

The Rose and Crown is awful, infact the whole UK pavillian is bad. Plus full of Brits getting drunk. It makes us all look bad.

Wow thanks for that. I work at the Rose and Crown and really don't like your comment. Brits getting drunk doesn't really happen there, more Americans to be honest.

I Like the UK section. I think it's quite quaint. Like to pop round the corner and listen to British Invasion for a song or two (if that's what they're called), and the Bass Ale isn't too bad either (but I don't get drunk :rolleyes1).

I know its fine for many, but personally I am embarrassed with the British section and especially theBritish invasion.
For Gods sake! music in this country did not end in 1960 with the beatles (A group I find personally not interesting at all) we have great bands and music today

We do not all go round in Pringle sweaters, tam o shanters and use red telephone boxes aeting clotted cream and whateever they have for the welsh contingent.

We should be showing off our great country like Canada, our abilities and not live on our past.

I do not stop in this "quaint" old-fashioned look at Britain.

I quite like it too! We love to have a nosey around it, I have never seen anyone getting drunk, British or American! I hope that you are having a great time working there too!

We've recently returned from 9 nights in Spain and I have to report that my liver must be cheering ;)...........One alcoholic 'bevvy' a night was all I could afford :rotfl:

I Think the same could be said of every country in a way. Gemany with their oumppa music and cukoo clocks- the boat ride in Norway which is a bit bonkers! and the $200 jumpers etc, its all sterotypes of each country which considering the main market is one thats not known for international travel is not really that bad.

I know when I worked there a lot of the different countrys were rather embarssed with their offerings and used to laugh for instance at people paying $3 for a double decker or flake etc!

That's partly due to many American's perception of us, or what they used to think about the UK when EPCOT was built.

They think many of us are old fashioned and talk like Prince Charles or Julie Andrews, that would explain why they cannot pick out the different regional tones of our accent. Unless we are from the south of England and talk 'posh' they cannot figure us out at all, I mean they ask are you from Australia! :)
Many of the souvenirs for sale in the stores are what your average regular tourist would probably look to buy in London, or perhaps what they used to look to buy anyway, tins of shortbread and teddy bears dressed as policeman or a guard in bearskin headwear.

You will probably find most people who would represent the various Nationalities within World Showcase wouldn't necessarily agree that their country is a fair representation of what it is actually like. We do need some perspective though as EPCOT is only providing a small snapshot you know, just pretend it isn't really 'real'. ;)

The worrying aspect could be that they think we eat Fish n Chips in the street? Only at football matches I think!

As my Japanese friend would say - 漢字平仮名ローマ字

:lmao: Try being Scottish, they don't get that AT ALL. I've lost count of how many times I've been asked if I'm Irish... (by English and Americans!) ;)

As for a rip off - Wimbledon mens final tickets £91, and 10 strawberries for £2.25? I know where I'd rather spend my money!! ;)

Although I am sure you don't have a big problem with drunks I think Disney needs to do something about the image of Rose & Crown, I have free DDP for 16 nights this August and considered R&C until I started reading reviews, most places get a few bad reviews but R&C gets more than its fair share, see this thread I am following on Dibb http://www.thedibb.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=314105 upto 4 or 5 bad comments in the few replies.
