Beware the MDE app when changing reservations

Here's my rant of the day... Early this morning there was an opening at CP for the date that I wanted, about 15mins earlier than I had. (I've been stalking the site for months, keep trying for earlier times). So i clicked on the time and it showed that I already had a reservation for the time period, do I want to keep cancel it? Hit yes to cancel, as you can't rebook until it is, and got an error message that I couldn't cancel it on the app, needed to call dining at 407-etc. Tried it two more times and it wouldn't go through, kept telling me that I could not cancel, would have to call. Gave up because figured dining reservation dept wasn't open at that time anyway (before dawn). Rechecked from my computer in the morning just in case it was still there (magical thinking I know) and of course it wasn't. No big deal, i'm happy with the original time. Then I checked my email later in the day and had an email showing my reservation had been cancelled. What?!?

Of course called the reservation dept and there's nothing they can do, nothing open for that day/time. Spoke to guest services and she was very nice and apologetic, but there's nothing they can do. She looked for other reservations, of course nothing available in MK but recommended some other resort restaurants. Grrrr.. Can't believe they have a technical issue, they cancelled my reservation and can't/won't do anything to fix it. So now I have to continue stalking for the next 44 days to try to get it back.
 
I go so far as to say beware the MDE app for changing anything. It's buggy. It's better than it was but buggy. The website is much more reliable. Even on my phone, I use it vs. the app

Sorry you lost the CP reservation. Keep checking though, you will get it back, I bet. Folks change dining reservations all the time
 
Thanks, live and learn. I will definitely not change anything on it again, only try to book new so nothing important can disappear :D

The same thing happened to me with a BOG reservation. I was out of town so I was using my ipad instead of the computer and it was also cancelled.

I had cancelled a BOG breakfast in favor of CP because my youngest DS loves breakfast buffets. And we have gone to CP pretty much every time, since my older two were toddlers. It's a tradition :-). We also have a BOG lunch ressie another day (never been). I've calmed down, I was reeeeeeally annoyed after I received the email because I assumed right away they wouldn't do anything. Now I'm good, besides the elusive A&E FP, we've really gotten every reservation and FP that we wanted, so it's all good. Though that won't stop me from stalking!
 
Remember exactly when you lost the reservation, and then check back EXACTLY 1 hour from that time. I had the same thing happen to me when trying to book something, and I found that it releases the "lost" reservation exactly an hour after it was lost. Hope you see this in time!

Interesting, I didn't know that. Unfortunately, it was cancelled early in the morning and I didn't check my email until the afternoon so I didn't know until then that it had been cancelled.
 
Same thing happened to me yesterday, I wanted the BOG ressie that was 20min earlier and it asked if I wanted to cancel the original time so I said yes and then went to get the new time and got an error. I figure the new ressie was taken by someone else while I was cancelling the old one, I just assumed they would hold it while I cancelled the other, guess not! I was able to immediately get my old ressie back by searching it again and seeing that time appear. It only took me 4 months to get the first ressie! I would be so mad if I would've lost it all together!
 
I was using the website, in the middle of booking a ressie I had been stalking, and it asked me to cancel the current one before proceeding. So I clicked yes, then after I selected my guests from my family list, it asked for my sign-on again. After I clicked sign-in, it took me all the way out to dining reservation home page. When I checked for the new time I was in the middle of booking, it was gone, and so was my old ressie! I waited exactly an hour (I was on there hitting refresh for a few minutes prior), and the new ressie time popped back up, and I snagged it. It's some kind of glitch read about on here last year.
 
Glad you both got yours back! I asked guest services if it was a known issue and she denied it. I did email guest services also. The reality is that it's probably a good thing for me anyway, I got overexcited booking reservations with our first onsite visit and dining plan so we were over TS credits anyway. Was going to have to pay OOP for some. :goodvibes
 
If you have to drop a reservation to book a new one in the same time period, the website says it will not cancel the original reservation until the new one is confirmed. The MDE app doesn't say that... so I've never done it on the app. The website has worked out fine for me many times. One time I said I would cancel my old reservation to book the new one, but then the new one disappeared (I assume someone else clicked faster). My old reservation was never cancelled.
 
Update: I emailed guest services with the story yesterday and received a phone call today that they have reinstated my original reservation. Woo-hoo! :banana::dancer:I didn't really expect it to go anywhere... But now I love WDW just a little bit more. :D

That's great news!! Why I love Disney!!

I realized this issue with the app when was booking ADR last month fortunately I had no cancellations like you.
 
Has happened to me several times. I will not make a reservation on the app for another restaurant if I have one around the same time that has to be cancelled. My original ressie was cancelled, then the one I wanted was gone. Fortunately, I realized it right away, and was able to grab my original reservation, but after this happening a few times, I've learned my lesson.
