Beware Teen Spirit deoderant

Just wanted to make anyone aware that might know someone that uses this product. I bought some for my 7 y/o DD last week after she experienced her first bought of BO! Anyway she used it every morning for a week and had no problem. Yesterday she was using it while I straightening her dresser and she said, "Oops it broke off". I look to see what she is talking about and it was a corner of the deoderant broke off in a chunk and had landed on the carpet. I picked it up right away before it got smooshed into the carpet and felt a pointy thing. I then saw a small metal pin-like tip sticking out of the chunk of white. I crumbled up the chunk to see what it was and it was a type of straight pin like you would use to pin up something to sew but it was half the length. It was 1/2 inch long and had a white head or bead on the end. It had been in my DD's deoderant! Thank good that it was sticking downward in the deoderant and not upward or it could have done some damage. I called the company today and spoke with someone and they are sending a box to be mailed back to them right away. So just a warning!

Oh My That is just awful. Good thing it was pointing down. What makes me mad is that we have to be so careful with everything nowadays (is that a word )

OMG... My DD uses Teen Spirit .......See this is why I am neurotic about checking seals and saftey tabs on everything its a crazy world out there and you never know what you will find.......

Ok, any chance DD put that in there? Maybe a piece broke off before and she was trying to fix it????? Does she know that they sometimes do that and it is ok if they 'break'? You might want to check with her first.

Call me silly, but I wouldn't use a deoderant/anti persperant on a child. Young kids just smell funky sometimes. That is what baths are for. They don't need chemicals and perfume to make them smell like adults.

There are PLENTY of 7 year olds that have real BO, a bath only goes so far when they are running around on the playground and sweating. Go hang out in an elementary school for a while and you will change your mind quickly about kids and deodorant.

Do they have a clear gel version. At least you could see the pin then.

No. I asked her. She didn't know what I was even talking about. It happened right in front of me too. I have never seen this type of pin but it looks like it could be used on a bulletin board.

Okay Silly. Actually at the ages of 7 or 8 a girl will start to perspire enough to develope BO. DD bathes daily but that doesn't help when you have PE and then recess. Honestly I couldn't believe how bad this child smelled when she came home lastt week! I keep looking for the source and was amazed that it was DD! LOL! I at first called her PEd as I couldn't remember when our first DD needed deoderant. He told me that since DD will be 8 in two months that it is completely normal and quite common. I have since looked online about it and he is right. Boys will usually need it at age 9 which is when my DS needed it. My DD doesn't smell like an adult with perfume. Teen Spirit comes in really nasty teen smells like Cool Coconut and Wild Berry! LOL!

Never thought of gel deoderant! Teen Spirit doesn't have it but I will look for a gentle gel variety. Great idea!! Thanks!

The first time I noticed, she'd been out of the shower less than an hour, & I could smell her.
It was regular b.o. - not just a kid being dirty & needing a shower.
Our pediatrician said to use deodorant on her every day....that it was fine.
Turns out, by 8, under her clothes, she looked like a grown woman & had her period at 10. (She wasn't overweight at all either, which is the case with some girls with early onset puberty...she is actually on the thin side).

Yes, there are! I have a DD 10 who has been stinking since she was 8 and using deoderant. She has been using panti liners for 6months for obvious reasons. Im sorry but why should a child be ridiculed or uncomfortable when its an easy fix to apply deoderant? A bath removes bacteria but its only temporary/ short term until they break a sweat which I would hope all kids do. Kids should be up and moving..active critters!

I TOTALLY AGREE.. my first job was at a roller skating rink. Imagine a packed house of kids that NEED deodorant but dont use it, and the AC in the Pro Shop was busted I felt like

Mine did too. I can't blame her, if had to smell 25 hormone bags on a daily basis, I would too.
