BEWARE: First Love Bug Sighting!

I have heard the term love bug but never saw one. I am PETRIFIED of insects. Hope they dont make an appearance in Oct.

This always cracks me up people freaking out about the love bugs. They are so docile and wouldn't hurt a fly. My issue with them is that I sometimes confuse them with a wasp.

I've seen some up in Winter Park, about 30 mins north of the parks.

Can you guess why there are called "Love Bugs" hah

Yep, saw them all over AK this morning. They didn't bother us or swarm. I diidnt notice them at the other parks.

They move slowly so they are easy to swat away. The should not be too bad at all. I'm in Tampa and haven't seen on yet this 'fall'. And very few this spring.

I was there late September 2008, and they were still everywhere....we got quite a laugh out of them, because we did not know what they were, and we just kinda assumed it was mating season....anyways they are harmless, this time I am going late October and I hope they are gone:hug:

the only thing that bothers me about them is some will eventually end up smooshed on clothing or exposed limbs, etc... looking at a person with a smooshed love bug on their cheek or forehead is as awkward as looking at someone with a booger hanging out.

:rotfl: Ah no worries to the OP who hates all insects. I'm a transplanted Floridian and I still freak and squash any bug I see and love bugs have never bothered me. They are harmless, unless your a car windshield or grill ;) The most harm they do is take paint off of cars from their squashed guts on cars (sorry for being gross). If Florida only had a "Palmetto Bug" aka flying **** roach season instead of year round, THAT would be nice to avoid :lmao:

I saw one today while I was out shopping in Savannah. We seem to get them bad in the fall here. I don't know why.

At least once a season I seem to breathe in at just the wrong time and end up with one up my nose or in my mouth.

Maybe the bedbugs ate them.

I wonder how far north these things will go. It stands to reason that they will migrate, and I read a reference saying they've been spotted as far as North Carolina in 2006. They're annoying, but they sort of fascinate me after seeing them for the first time. It was like some sort of weird plague I had never seen or heard of.

Oh well, I guess I'll be washing the car quite a bit now.
