This is my first venture over to the DL board. I really thought that I would get there someday but not as soon as it looks like might happen. I am really pretty clueless about the LA area since I never had any real desire to visit except for the fact that Disneyland is there! :) Now let me show my Midwestern ignorance and ask a few questions.

It looks like there is a better than average chance that I will be sent to a conference at the Beverly Hills Hilton in late August. The whole idea sends me into a panic. I probably just watch too much TV but the idea of sending me to Beverly Hills makes as much sense (and probably will be every bit as ridiculous) as sending Paris Hilton to Arkansas was. However, as strange as the whole situation is I also realize that this may be a great opportunity for me to fly out a day or two early and see DL for the first time.

My DH may not be able to get off work so it may just be me by little lonesome self. How far is the Hilton from DL? I really don't know if I could handle a rental car and drive myself. Are there any options that don't cost a fortune? How does one get around the area without a rental car? The thought of driving in LA really scares me.

Thanks for the help and for any info you can provide so I can just start thinking about things! :)

Hi, We would LOVE to have you visit Disneyland--the original. You would be about hour driving time from Disneyland and there are shuttle services, etc that could get you there. There is an airport bus that comes from LAX to Disneyland Hotel every day many times a day.

Please PM me and I will try to help relieve your anxiety. don't let an opportunity like this pass you by!

We went to LA/Disneyland for the first time in december of 2003. We were kinds freaked about the driving too, but honestly it wasn't that bad. The roads could get kinda confusing, but buy a good map and not problem(If your used to big city driving)! Have a great time if you go and definetly make the hour drive to Disneyland! We had the best time, and would love to go back!

I always get a bit nervous when I drive in a new area. I have found that so long as I've got a good map and review my route ahead of time, the area from Hollywood all the way down to San Diego isn't terribly difficult to drive in.

It's not like driving in some of the older cities in the country where lanes are narrow, pedestrians are every where and you constantly hit one way streets. The street and freeway signs do a good job of letting you know what's coming up. The hardest part for me is getting across lanes in traffic for your exit. But, with a good map, you know what's coming and can start moving over early.

If you've ever driven in New York City, Boston, New Orleans, San Francisco, or Atlanta, I think you'll find this much easier.

You should definitely make the trip. If you don't want to drive, then ilovemky's suggestion of the shuttles is a great one.
