I read this on screamscape.com -
Resort News - (1/15/03) In a rather strange bit of rumored news that I find shocking for Disney, it seems that they may be planning to roll back the prices of bottled beverages starting 2/2/03. 20oz Coke Products will drop from $2.50 to just $2.00, bottle water will drop a dollar to $1.50, and Powerade will drop to $2.50 (from $3).
This is kinda puzzling - what could it mean?

I don't know what it could mean, but I would be very happy if it were true!

all stars had nestea ice tea at 3 dollars it was killing me. like there not raping us already

Just a guess, but it might be that their market analysis shows they can make a greater overall profit with the lower prices - i.e. maybe they finally hit a point where they lost money by having higher prices, due to fewer sales. Or, they might just be trying to build up some marketing angle ("Look, we've actually lowered prices!"). Considering some amusement park (Holiday World?) can give away soft drinks for free, they'll still be making a hefty profit on the drinks. Even without accounting for a marketing/goodwill/more people visiting boost, they probably aren't going to lose too much (maybe any) money doing this, assuming sales increase as a result.

Even at $1.50 a bottle onsite, I'll still buy water offsite.
Last weekend we bought 6 6-packs of Aquafina 1/2L at PUBLIX 2 for $5.00. Thats $0.41 per botlle, onsite $2.50. The $72.00 we saved almost payed for the rental car.
When we stay for a week we go to SAMS to save even more:eek:
Besides, I don't like DISANI water.

How will they be able to pay Ei$ner's bonus:p :p :p

Uhm, I don't want to alarm anyone, but I think this quite possibly might be the 7th sign & we should expect the 4 horsemen to be ariving pretty soon. ;)

Hey, anything's possible, and maybe have found that they drove too many people to buy drinks off-site, or just bring empty water bottles...

However....

I'll believe it when I see it.

I always managed to bring my own bottled water - $2.50 a bottle for Dasani just made me sick!

At $1.50 a bottle, I'll still bring the majority of my water, but if I run out, I'll be more likely to buy a bottle in the parks rather than live without or refill from the water fountains.

WDW will definitely get a LITTLE more money out of me as a result of this roll-back.

When I was at WDW in early Dec, an Epcot employee stopped my family on the way out and asked us to do a quick survey. The employee asked the questions, we gave answers, and the employee recorded them on his surveyboard. There were about 20 questions and one of the questions was something to the effect "How would you rate the price of food and beverages at disney world: very expensive, expensive, a little high, just right, cheap". I asked the guy if my answers could be used against me in terms of future price increases. He said yes, Disney uses these surveys to see if they are doing things right and if I said things were cheap, they may raise prices. I responded to the survey that the prices were very expensive and it sounds like a lot of other people did too. So next time your at Disney and they ask you to do a survey - do it. It may help all of us save money down the road.

I think Disney can afford to lower their there prices since they do not pay for any of their Coke products. Coke supplies Disney with all of their soft drinks in return for all the advertising it does on the paper products. I am sure Disney pays for their paper products and needs to charge for the soft drinks to pay for them, but let's be realistic. They do not need to charge more for a 20 oz coke than the grocery store does for 2 2 liters.

I for one would be happy to here they are lower prices. Maybe we will not need to bring in snacks and water if they are more affordable.

"2/2/03. 20oz Coke Products will drop from $2.50 to just $2.00, bottle water will drop a dollar to $1.50"

How considerate of them to reduce the prices to coincide with my visit! :p

By the way, as of today anyway the price for both softdrinks and bottled water at Disneyland and California Adventure are $2.75. The "large" size water is $4.45.

The old WDW prices looked good to us, this just rubs it even more.

Thats what you get for living in Southern California Voice. I am sure it is also hard to get a 3 bedroom 2 bath new constuction home in a nice neighboorhood in LA and its surrounding counties for 100,000.

"They do not need to charge more for a 20 oz coke than the grocery store does for 2 2 liters."

I don't know about your stores, but at my local "Shop Rite" routinely sells 2 liter soda's- coke & pepsi- for .99. When you get to the check-out line they have refridgerated 20. oz bottles for 1.29, and people buy them.

You know, I was kind of waiting for the "Californians are stupid and they deserve it" posts. Anything to show that Disney's right....

Oh - I don't think Californians are stupid...Rich maybe, yeah I do think they are all rich though.

AV (or any of the Southern Cal folks) , what's the going price for a 20 oz Coke at your local gas station (any soft drink is a 'Coke' here - close to Georgia :-) outside the parks?

In the south-east it would be $0.99.

 Wonder if they will lower the price of fountain drinks as well? The free refills you get at a sit down restaurant is really great, but I guess most good sit downs do that. :D

If this report is correct, then it provides a rather interesting ending to a question I posted on the debate board quite awhile back.

What if Disney lowered their prices?

In the course of the debate, several people suggested that they thought I had some flawed reasoning in my proposal. While that's entirely possible, this report is an interesting turn of events.

:D By no means do I expect to be able to figure out how disney operates their price structure, but it seems logical that if they are still complaing about business being off, they should lower their prices overall which would attract more buyers and the extra volume should make them even more money then raising prices and having guests buy less. no? Of course, I don't like crowds, so maybe they shouldn't increase park attendance.......never mind. :(

My thought is if they are going to drop these prices.....What are they going to raise to make up the shortfall? Tickets perhaps....

Everyone needs (except 2 and under) a ticket not everyone buys soad and water........
