Can the various bev packages be purchased online? If so is there an advantage to advance purchase?

Yes, you can purchase the packages online. The advantage to purchasing beforehand is that you will have it bought and paid for before your cruise begins negating the large bill you may have received at the end of the cruise.

Lol, you answered my question even though I screwed it up, thanks. I meant to ask if they can be purchased onboard.

You may avoid sales tax by waiting to purchase onboard

There was no sales tax for our purchase of the beverage package online. I believe I have read that it can also be purchased onboard. Leaving for the Allure in one hour, looking forward to trying out RCL after 13 DCL cruises.

Correct, no sales tax.

We paid tax on DS's ice cream from Ben and Jerry's before sailing and didn't pay tax for future ice creams, but the beverage package wasn't taxed beforehand.

Would love to hear about your cruise when you get back! We will be taking our first cruise on Royal next year after only having cruised DCL, and although I am excited...I am also nervous!!!

I am also so nervous.... We have only sailed Disney but will try RCI in July!! I would LOVE know what you think of. I love everything Disney but I have been told that Royal is great. Please let us know!!!

Only been on the one Disney cruise, but so far Royal looks better to me. We have been long time fans of Disney but found DCL to be lacking in some areas. Hoping that RCI Picks up where DCL fell flat, otherwise perhaps cruising isn't for us.

I don't like the little add on that Royal have... Like paying extra for drinks, printing own tags... Maybe I just got spoiled from Disney. We are not saving that much $$$ going RCI so we will wait and see.
I think you are going to have a great time since you are sailing on one of the nicest ships!! Have fun....

Our RCI cruise is about $1500 cheaper than the comparable Disney cruise, and that includes the tips on RCL and a balcony vs a ocean view without tips on Disney. For something like an extra $120 bucks we can get the all included soda for 3 people and we're still killing it on the price.

Which ship are you going on? We'll be on Oasis.

Thinking about the package again, do you have to buy it the first day and if you don't, do you still pay for the whole week?

Beverage packages can be purchased onboard.

We've been on multiple RCI cruises. The only times that sales tax becomes an issue are cruises involving Barcelona, which adds a VAT when in Spanish waters. That's when purchasing a beverage package online saves on the tax.

It gets prorated. But the last time I looked, you have to have at least 4 days left on your cruise.

This might be changing, as some on cruisecritic have reported being able to buy packages for 3 night cruises (which wasn't allowed before), and one could go along with the other.

Hello! Does anyone know if the soda package can also be prorated? We want to try the machines, but we really and truly are not soda people. I would rather buy 4 days worth than 7 days just for the cup and the novelty of it.

Good question. Not sure.

But....I see from your ticker that you're going to the Mediterranean. I would make sure that your ship has a Freestyle machine on it, before getting excited about the cup and novelty. Not all of them do; the ones that tend to stay in the Europe area don't, because they can't get the syrup for the Freestyle machines. (or something like that)

Thanks!
I haven't made a RCL ticker yet, I am booked on a 2015 Western. That is why I am following your RCL trip report on the Freedom. Of course, after reading your report I am thinking of switching to the Eastern ;)

It looks like she'll be on the Disney Magic.

:cool1: Yay! Yes, you are right! Lucky me I am repeating the same cruise as last year so I just never needed to change the ticker :lmao:

Just off the Allure yesterday, getting back home to Las Vegas tonight after staying an extra night in Ft. Lauderdale. Will post my thoughts tomorrow, overall had a great time but there are definitely differences from what we were used to on DCL.
