Between the BLs (Biggest Loser) Summer Challenge 2010 Part 2

Some of you may be wondering why it takes me so long to work on these applications. Well, in Minnesota (it might be other states as well), most teacher applications have essay questions. The one I am currently working on has 12 essay questions :scared1: and it takes so much time to come up with good answers.

:scared1: Are you KIDDING??!! I would be unemployed PERMANENTLY!! DD is sitting here near me trying valiently to finish up the 5 page essay that was assigned as summer work (that she procrastinated on until the LAST minute) and she says she "feels your pain".! ..................P

Sorry I haven't been on the last day or so. One of our bathrooms had some leakage. While they were working on the leak we asked them to look at the slow drain. 2 hours yesterday, 4 hours today, a wall cut out and some pipe cut out and the leak is still there and the drain is slower than ever. We have no idea how much it is going to cost but we need it fixed. They are even talking about breaking more walls down. Let's hope they can come up with something tonight and try it in the morning. We had water all over the breakfast nook this afternoon. I went to the farmer's market and was gone no more than 20 minutes and I came home to a mess that my dh had already cleaned up half of it. This is what you get when you have a 100 year old house. It will work out.

Maria have a great vacation.

Off to work on a project to keep my mind off the plumbing.

 Another no show tonight! 2nd time in two weeks this woman has done this! She will be spoken to as she doesn't even call! I gave her a card last week with all the dates on it! I have to go in an hour early to get ready and then for her to not show!!!! Sorry I needed to vent a few minutes!!!! I did give a chair massage to a lady who was coming in to get her nails done. She's a riot so at least it wasn't a total loss! She plans on coming for a massage soon!

DH and girls are playing Toy Story 3 on the PS3. I'm going to go and change my clothes now and get comfy for the night! At least the headache went away. I think it was stress and allergies combined. I don't think it was accident related but if it continues I will go to the doctor sooner.

Working in the morning watching the desk for about an hour then off to pick up some groceries and a sleeping bag for our camping this weekend!

Glad the next challenge starts next week! I plan on doing well next week with workouts and food so I can have a decent starting weight! I am the Energizer Bunny so I better live up to my name!

Good night friends!

I also plan on getting back to answering the QOTDs again and doing the COW the next challenge. I have felt so frazzled lately I can't even concentrate on answering the questions thoughtfully. I did write in my journal a bit today. I forgot yesterday but it was a crazy day!

I WISH I was kidding...but I am not. I have answered at total of 17 DIFFERENT essay questions today. I have a word document where I keep all my different questions I come across (in case any get repeated from district to district) and my file is over 20 typed pages long right now. It is so exhausting.

Tell you DD that I feel her pain as well! :rotfl2:

Oh no! I am so sorry to read this. I hope you get it fixed and cleaned up quickly...that is no fun at all!:confused3

I am also glad that the new challenge starts next week. I did okay this challenge but I think too many things caused me not to do my best (like how I am sitting and drinking a sangria instead of my water right now).

I also have to get back to doing the QOTD and the COW (soon to be Healthy Habits) next challenge. It seems like once I get slightly off track...I get totally off track.

I am just so thankful that everyone here is so supportive even if I am not on all the time or I miss a day or two or if I am late with the COW! :rotfl: You guys are all the best! Thanks for the constant support!

Hi Everyone!

I am keeping my parents up so this will be very short. I apologize, no replies again.

Today was a kind of blah day. I spent most of the day really upset. I am much beter now and actually feel like posting. I ended up bingeing. Not the best way to end the challenge. I may end up with a maintain for the week though because I was down this morning. I'll be okay with whatever happens. Tracey-I'm with you. I'll be hitting the next challenge hard.

Good luck with weigh-in tomorrow morning! :goodvibes

Good evening! Let me start this post by saying that it was $beer night, and I did have a couple, so please forgive any spelling errors.:goodvibes I ran a 5k after work today. I don't know what my time was, it was on the garmin and i'll download it tomorrow. I am sorry I have been mia as a coach today.:goodvibes

Lisa--thanks for getting the new thread going and for all that you do.:goodvibes

Lindsey--I loved your nsv and your advice for new folks!:goodvibes

Maria--have a great vacation!:goodvibes

Bree--we went to HP a couple of years ago when we were back east, and had ice cream. OMG it was so good. Sounds like it was a good day, but really nothing compares to disney.:goodvibes

Tracey--feel better. :goodvibes The rag weed is off the charts here. I have been taking claritin for a couple of days now.

Connie--

Pamela--thanks, we had fun tonight.:goodvibes Sounds like you had a nice visit with your Mom.

Carmiedog--good job on kicking the salt habit!

Jen-- I am not a big fan of essays! Good job on not snacking!

Dona--oh, I hate plumbing leaks. We had a hole in our family room ceiling for almost a year (too lazy to fix it) from a plumbing issue.

CC:hug:

Taryn--hope you had a good day.:goodvibes

I just wanted to take a minute to say how much I have enjoyed coaching this week. You all are awesome, and I so appreciate how much support I have received on this journey. If I were going to give someone advice, I would say, you have come to the right place. If you do the work, and make the effort, anything is possible.:goodvibes

Have a great night.:goodvibes

But really.... listen your your body. Do you have TRUE hunger symptoms? Growling tummy, light-headed, empty feeling, would like to eat almost ANYTHING? Then fill it! Grab a piece of fruit or a piece of cheese and fill that hungry belly? Not real hunger?? "Mental" hunger instead of physical hunger?? Find something else to do to distract you... take a walk, talk to a friend, post a fun quote on FB, come chat with us, make a bed, dust a room, reorganize a drawer.

Thanks, P. I love all your distraction ideas. :cutie:

I really was hungry and I had a yogurt. But, I was ALSO in a pretty serious funk. I was really ready to NOT be at work at that particular moment. :headache: (That seems to happen a lot lately )

Ugg... that sounds dreadful! Back when DH and I were looking for our first house, I kept looking at old houses.... I love the character and charm. But we had a deal that if we didn't find the right house by a certain time, that we would start looking at new construction. And that is what we ended up doing! While I do think my home definitely lacks the charm and originality of an older home, it is also lacking all of the PROBLEMS that an older home brings! And those problems would STRESS me! Sorry for your troubles!

Glad you're feeling better.

Fresh start tomorrow after weigh-in, okay?? New day, new plan, new attitude!! I hope whatever was bringing you down is gone now.

Thanks, P. I love all your distraction ideas. :cutie:

I really was hungry and I had a yogurt. But, I was ALSO in a pretty serious funk. I was really ready to NOT be at work at that particular moment. :headache: (That seems to happen a lot lately )

When I used to work full time and had moments like that, I would take the time to kind of reorganize my work space.... it cleared the space and cleared my head and gave me time to regroup, as it were. Or maybe you need a mental health day at home?? Or maybe a 3 martini lunch hour??:rotfl:

Well, Fabulous Friday to everyone! WE MADE IT! If you are still with us here, you made it through the ENTIRE challenge! WOOHOO!! :dance3: We should be very proud of ourselves!! No matter WHERE you are in regards to your weight, you made a SUPREME effort to stay on a healthy track this summer.... success on the scale will surely follow!

I only managed to pull out a tiny loss on the scale this week (.8), but considering my week, I'm pleased with that....

Sunday brunch at Friendly's

Monday dinner at Subway

Tuesday dinner at Olive Garden

Wednesday lunch at mall food court

Thursday lunch at Ruby Tuesday's

:scared1: it was a VERY unusual week for me! We rarely eat out more than once at week, at most. Plus my exercise was decidely LACKLUSTER! But as things get more into a regular school routine, that will definitely change.

Well, I've got a LONG list of things to do today, starting with RAKING OUT DD's room, now that she is back to school. It is SCARY! But I can't stand to look at it even one more minute!!

Well, I'm gonna run.....................P

Well, weigh-in wasn't pretty, but I'm okay with that.

Thanks Pam and Rose! I am feeling much better today. I started the morning off with a 75 minute workout. It looks like I will make my exercise goal for the month. Debating whether or not to go to the gym today. I probably will.

I ended up gaining about 7 pounds this challenge. That is better than the last challenge when I gained almost 10 pounds. ;) I will hit the next challenge hard and hope for the best.

Jen-We have essays to write in CT, but usually 2 and often they are the same ones. I have a file too, but it's probably 4 pages. Sorry.

Donac-Hope things are better with your house today. I agree with Pam. That sounds awful.

Taryn-How are things going? :goodvibes

Thanks Bree! :)

Have a great day everyone!

Good morning all! :goodvibes

It's hard to believe that our summer challenge is over! :dance3: We all deserve a big round of applause for making it all the way through the challenge! :cool1: So give yourself a pat on the back and congratulate yourself for working so hard all summer long!

Please be sure and PM those final weights to LuvBaloo and COW numbers to jenanderson today.

A big thank you to our weightkeeper, LuvBaloo, and our COW keeper, jenanderson. Thanks to Rose&Mike for running our recipe thread and to corinnak for our clippie and the QOTD archive. And thank you to all our coaches who keep our conversations going and come up with interesting and unusual QOTD, even when you would think we have nothing new left to say! ;) But, most of all, thank you to all of you who participate in these challenges because we couldn't do a Biggest Loser Challenge without all of you! :flower3:

We have a great fall challenge planned. I'm looking forward to our new measurement component and our new challenge of the week. Thank you to the folks who are signing up and volunteering to coach!

Remember to keep hanging out here for chatting while we wait for the final results. We don't have an official coach but I think that we will find things to talk about -- we always do! :cool2:

Maria, have a great time on your vacation!

Bree,your new do sounds great!

, Connie, hope the grouchy day passed quickly! :flower3:

pjlla, glad that you had a good day with your Mom! :goodvibes

carmiedog, great job on kicking the salt habit. That will make a big difference in your overall health! :thumbsup2

Wow, jenanderson, 21 miles this week! :woohoo: I can't imagine having to sit at the computer for so long and do so many essays.

donac, hope they get your water problem fixed soon. :flower3:

Tracey, hope the headache stays away today. :flower3:

cc, hope today is a better day for you. :flower3:

Thanks again for coaching last week, Rose! You were a great coach!

I am a samer this week but with the tummy upset I was kind of expecting that. I am finishing down for the challenge and I am always happy when that happens.

It is always a pleasure hostessing your challenge. The truth is that I need these challenges and you all a lot more than you guys need me! :flower3:

Good morning!

I slept in this morning. I actually slept until about 7. With the way I felt yesterday I decided to just give my body a break. Planning on doing some elliptical this afternoon and maybe some other workouts after I pick up DH's sleeping bag and some groceries.

Girls are I are at work. Hoping to leave soon as it's quiet.

Good luck with your weigh ins! I will join you again next week!

Here's to getting back on track next week! I need to start getting up early in two weeks so I think I'll just start on Monday!

Yeah... I have been here, in my chosen field of work, for 15 years and that is something to be so grateful for. And I am. It's just that there have been so many philosophical/political changes in the management of our department that it's just emotionally hard - I used to love my job and now that I have gone thru the hating-my-job phase, I'm into an apathy phase and it just hurts that I don't love my job anymore. There are lots of reasons for which I have no intention of changing jobs and I feel like a total schmuck whining about this when I know that Jen and CC are both job-hunting right now.

On the upside... I'm taking next Monday and Tuesday off - my last two vacation days that I have to use or lose by Sept 1.

Monday = my 37th bday
Tuesday = my 14th wedding anniversary
Wednesday = back to work on my 15th anniversary at my job

I suppose I could take off the whole week, but I'd rather hoard my newly acquired and carry-over vacation days so that I can spend them some place awesome. (Or wait and burn them next summer on play days with DH and DD like I've been doing this summer.)

I only managed to pull out a tiny loss on the scale this week (.8)

I've got 0.8 loss this week, too, and I worked HARD for it.

Good morning all! :goodvibes

I'm off to report in my weight and COW. Y'all have a great Friday!!

Well, I'm gonna run.....................P

Very well said!:goodvibes I think .8 is great! I think once you get so close to goal, even .5 per week consistently is reasonable. I'm going to start off the next challenge as a maintainer, but if I switch back to a loser after the races, I'm kind of planning on about 1/2 pound a week. I guess there are always exceptions, like if I came back with a couple of extra vacation pounds, but as Mike likes to point out, the pounds I am getting rid of now have been with me for 20 years, of course they are going to come off slowly!:thumbsup2

CC--you are really rockin the exercise! Way to go!

Taryn--where are you. Are you doing ok?:goodvibes

Hi Lisa!

Good morning all! I am happy to say I made it through my first week of maintain. I am slightly down from last week. I think I will probably keep losing about a 1/2 pound a week, but I'm going to stay as a maintainer, because mentally that's where I need to be right now. With all the races coming up my exercise will be kind of off so I haven't really adjusted what I'm eating too much. Though I am now working to consume a bit more carbs the day before and the day of a long run. Did I tell you all we are thinking of running a 1/2 in November? There's another one in Indy and there's one in Lancaster PA where one of my sisters live. We're going to wait until next weekend and see how it goes. I am going to have to get something to cover my face because I cough in the cold air.

Today started off good. DS called to say hi. He is really enjoying school. He has added a computer minor, which I am so glad to hear. He is a math whiz, but wanted nothing to do with it after high school, so it's nice to see he's getting back into it a little. He said he loves his programming class. He's getting a degree in poli sci with a minor in sociology and c.s. and wants to go to law school. Can you guess who he wants to work for when he grows up?:goodvibes

I am going clearance shopping today. Hoping to get some clothes for our October trip. I have to work tomorrow morning for a few hours and then Sunday we have our last long run before our first race. Sunday's run is only 6 miles--which I don't even consider long anymore!:rotfl: Who would have thought that I could run this much?

Have a great day everyone!

Good morning everyone. It is hard to believe that the end of the challenge is here. It also means the end of summer. I go back to work on Wednesday.

Plumbing is still a problem around here. The toilet needs to be replaced and the main line going down to the main drain needs to be cut and replaced. They already cut the wall in the bathroom. Tomorrow they are going to cut the wall in the bedroom to cut the large drain and replace that. HAve to clean out some of the bedroom so they have some room to work. We will do that later. I am going out to lunch with my department and dh and ds went to a movie.

LAst day with ds2. He leaves tomorrow morning for college. He has a 12 noon meeting for his engineering group that will be going to El Salvador. He is already scheduled to go to Gambia during winter break and El Salvador may be spring break or after spring session lets out. He is becoming quite the world traveler.

Not much else here. I am looking forward to the cooler weather that is coming. So much easier to work out when it is comfortable.

Have a nice day everyone.

I started the morning off with a 75 minute workout. It looks like I will make my exercise goal for the month. Debating whether or not to go to the gym today. I probably will.

CC - Your exercising is really inspiring lately! I am so proud of how hard you have been working. I know that you may not be losing exactly like you want to be but you are making such positive changes in your life so it will come at some point. :thumbsup2

THANK YOU to everyone who helps out with these challenges...Lisa, you are incredible at organizing all of this for us! I was not planning on a COW for this week but have something special in mind that I will post in a bit!

Wow, jenanderson, 21 miles this week! :woohoo: I can't imagine having to sit at the computer for so long and do so many essays.

Just ran 5 miles this morning so we are now at 26 miles! My goal for today was to run the 5 mile hilly trail in under 10 minute miles...we did it in 49:30 so I was feeling strong! I think I need it as a mental break from the essay questions right now! :upsidedow

I feel like a total schmuck whining about this when I know that Jen and CC are both job-hunting right now.

Connie - Don't feel like a schmuck for not being totally happy with where you are at with your job. I have been there before as well. I am glad that you have some days off coming and hope it helps you feel a bit more refreshed. :goodvibes

... the pounds I am getting rid of now have been with me for 20 years, of course they are going to come off slowly!:thumbsup2

Sunday's run is only 6 miles--which I don't even consider long anymore!:rotfl: Who would have thought that I could run this much?

Rose - I feel totally the same way right now about losing the last bit of weight slowly. I have been carrying this weight for at least 15 years and I am learning to accept the slow and steady pace for the last bit. I think you have a really healthy attitude about it right now.

As for the running...I think it is so funny how so many of us are to the point of calling 6 miles a "regular" type of run. I now think if my long run is less then 8 I am being lazy! :rotfl:

Sorry you have so much going on with your plumbing but I am glad to read that you are going out for a lunch and taking a bit of time off before school starts for you. :thumbsup2

Well, I am ending this challenge not really where I thought I would be but in a place I feel comfortable with. My weight right now is 153. I am going to be a loser to start the next challenge but am hoping at some point to be able to call myself a maintainer. I think for me the most important thing about this summer challenge was that I stuck it through. I have had ups and downs, emotional challenges, stress from the lack of a job, and a crazy schedule BUT I kept on following as many healthy habits as I could, I realized when I made choices that were not the best and turned it around, I keep on running and I have not stopped trying. This to me is the biggest victory because I am beginning to feel like I have made a change in my lifestyle and that I like the way things are. I no longer see it as something I have to do but rather feel like I am choosing to live this way.

Well, it is time to get back to applications. I will come back later today to post the final COW data as well as a little last MINI COW challenge!

Going to end the week on the most positive of notes!!!!!

Doing the double digit dance NOW! 96 days to go! If that's not an incentive to get my act together and BUTT in gear than nothing is!:banana:

I WILL BE BACK TO MY OLD SELF ON MONDAY! One more weekend to get it all out of my system and then back to business!

I'm not happy how I look today in my pants. The pooch has gotten bigger again and it's not making me happy so I will just have to do something about it!

Have a great weekend! I will try and post in the morning but won't be on again until Sunday evening when we get back from camping! I guess I should think about packing stuff.

Dona--hope the plumbing is fixed soon!:goodvibes

Tracey--have a great weekend!:goodvibes

We are really going to have trouble only going 6 on Sunday. Tapering is torture! Good job on the under 10 min 5 miler. My 5k time yesterday was around 10:40, which was disappointing, but it's still a bit warm here. And I have to cut myself some slack for feeling cruddy at the beginning of the week. I am hoping when it cools off to see some faster times!:goodvibes

Thanks for sharing where you are at. It really helps to hear about how everyone is sticking it out despite obstacles. I think that's where the lessons lie. That we have to keep going even when it's hard, and if we slip, we get up, dust off and try again. The hardest thing in January for me, was to realize that a slip is not a failure, it's just a slip.:goodvibes

Back from shopping. I got a new dress, a sweater for over the dress, two shirts for work, a pair of sandals, a belt, and some undies. Everything but the belt and undies was on clearance! I think next week I need to break down and track calories for a bit. I don't think I ate enough today. We're planning to have dinner at the restaurant at the ballpark tonight, so I think I'm going to splurge and have my ff with my hummus!

Have a good eveining.

Hi everyone. Once again, I have been MIA - sorry about that. I have caught up with most of the posts.

Happy Belated Birthday CC. Hope it was great.

Jenanderson - continued good luck on the job search.

donac - hope the house situation is resolved quickly!

Rose&mike - way to go on the maintainer status!

Connie- thanks for setting up the WIN challenge (which by the way, is a great name, thanks Maria). I don't always like the numbers on the scale, so I think another way to measure the changes will be a good thing.

I know I missed some stuff including lots of QOTDs. I am challenging myself to keep up better over the fall!

So end of challenge, I didn't quite meet the goal I set for myself, but I did lose so I am happy with my progress. I am excited to jump right back in with the Fall challenge. I already have a number in mind for my new goal, I just need to figure out how to get there.

DS#2 made it through first week of 7th grade. He is playing football this year, and he has 2 hours of practice every day after school, so he is coming home exhausted. He also got his full mouth of braces on Wednesday morning, so that gave him something else to complain about!
DS#1 is officially a college sophmore as of this past Monday. He is settled into his dorm and making friends with his roommates.

Going to complete W2D3 of c25k tonight - that is the plan, anyway. I may think about repeating a day or two of this week, as I am not sure I am ready to move onto week 3.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Have a great weekend everyone.

Jumping in for a quick hello! Totally buried under yard sale stuff, just kinda blah with it for a minute. My scale is under all this akfjda;lsi fuawoeiruhak.lhn somewhere, so I didn't weigh in today. I might Sunday.

DD's appt yesterday was okay, her weight is still bothersome to me, but we had a different dr. that totally took it in stride, which ticked me off since I had Brad come specifically to hear how bad it is. But she was impressed with her mental/drawing/large motor stuff, so... guess that part is good.

DH is not into this yard sale, and kinda mad about it, so I'm bearing most of the burden, as usual. He's actually mowing right now, and didn't do half of the teeny list I left for him today. Trying to get myself back on task. Had a glass of unsweet tea, hoping for a caffeine boost.

Didn't run at all this week. Probably won't tomorrow either. I might try Sunday am, but church mornings are always nuts. Still feel bloated, my eating's been off, not becassirly terrible, but... good then bad, very yo-yo!

Try to check in later.

LOVE YOU ALL!

Sadly, I've been mostly absent from this thread for the last half of the challenge. I allowed myself to wallow in self-pity about the slow recovery from my surgery and it went downhill from there. Fortunately, I lost 7.8 pounds this summer, notwithstanding my falling completely off the wagon.

On a more positive note -- I got my brace off Wednesday and was able to do the elliptical for 10 minutes at each of my last physical therapy sessions. On Thursday morning, I showed up at a WW meeting and got on board the wagon again. Day 2 is going well. ;)

Thank you all for being so inspirational. Even when I wasn't being "good", I was lurking here and at least wanting to be inspired. LOL! I am off now to sign up for the next challenge. :grouphug:
