Better than Visa Magic Code?

Being a former insurance agent for 12 yrs, I pulled out my policy last night and did some reading. First, AGENTS make mistakes when saying if things are covered or not. More often than they (we) would like to admit. They are NOT claims specialists. They sell coverage. They advise. They don't settle claims. VERY often, we would call the claims dept and ask a hypethical question. Of course, the answer we receive is only good if the accident ends up happening EXACTLY has we guessed it would happen. Also, no documents were reviewed to answer hypethical question.

I know better than to say "well my agent said I would be covered" ALL THE TIME EVERYWHERE. :scared:

Anyway, back to reading my policy. I'm not 100% convinced that my auto policy would step in WILLINGLY as secondary insurance after being denied by the PRIMARY insurance. The more insurance companies involved, the more they want the other (first) company to pay first. Makes sense, right? And the bigger the claim, the more stalling and passing the file will happen.

I also have same feeling that National agents don't know the insurance ramifications. Only that their system will allow you to rent the car.

I STILL can't decide what to do. This car will have HUNDREDS of miles put on it over 2 wks all over the state we are visiting. Its not sitting in a parking lot.

Problem is, every valid code I've tried comes up as $1000+ ($1200) to $7500 ($8000) to rent a midsize for 2 wks. THAT'S INSANE!

I'm looking at saving $1000 if using 67. I want the price the code gives. Just not their insurance. They are making this way too difficult. I'm tempted to start looking at another company. I've always used National. ALWAYS.

I'm on the other end of the process - the claim professional - and your insight is right on the mark. We get calls everyday from agents asking hypothetical questions in which none of our answers are binding. We give a hypothetical answer only. It sounds like you are experienced enough to know not to give a definitive anwer. I just got back from a mediation in NYC tonight on the issue of.... can you guess.... a contract dispute. Plaintiff states there was a verbal agreement. Our position is that under NY law, a written contract trumps any alleged verbal agreement. Mediator agreed with us. Do we win in the end, probably, but even if we don't, the whole process is nasty enough for me to make a personal decision that the risk is not worth it for us. Between the two parties in my case today, over $150,000 has been paid to the attorneys, all because of a simple contract dispute involving serious damages (paraplegic).

 i went thru the process to upgrade membership, etc.

account now reflects Executive Aisle

however, when i go & try to change car selection to full size there is a large rate increase:confused3 i've tried this on the 2 existing ressies i have?

i thought i could just go to the Executive Aisle & grab a vehicle????

fyi, in order to receive the lower rate for ExA vehicle, i had to cancel the original-wouldn't allow selection of larger car even while signed in

this is also happening to me. I'll give it a few days and see what happens. keep us posted how it goes and I will too. :goodvibes

I might have missed it, but what exactly is this code. I keep seeing Travel Agent code, but to me, it looks like it's for a travel agency. Do we know for sure that it's for travel agents? Or is it a code tied to a specific travel agency to use, similar to a general Wal-Mart code, AAA code, etc. It almost looks like it's a code that National set up for this travel agency to use for their clients, not necessarily the agents.

The only code we know for sure is for Travel AGENTS, for AGENT use ONLY, is the 5063773. People have however used it and nothing has happened so far. But, it is for agents, and ID is required...though no one has had to show any that we have heard from.

I called and asked about the code for National and I was told that you must be an employee of T3q travel solution to use this code.
Not sure if it's worth starting my vacation like that for a few dollars.

Which one did you ask about?

If you gave them the "57" end code then YES you should be an employee.
but the "67" end code is for ANYONE to use. But again everyone.. if we all keep calling on this it is going to get pulled...
I would like to use mine in August before this happens. So if folks are reporting back that they are using these codes and having no problems getting the rental and getting the price w/o being asked questions. WHY do folks feel the need to CALL!!!:confused3 :confused3
If everyone keeps calling attention to it they will end up getting rid of a great deal.

As I stated in a previous post, we need to stop calling about this code. I just returned from a 2 week trip and used the *67* code and the 35 dollar coupon and had absolutely no problems. To those just starting to read this post, READ THE WHOLE POST!!! there is another post Any luck with national codes that covers this same subject. Also flytalk has discussed this same code. ALL REPORTS HAVE BEEN GOOD FROM ACROSS THE COUNTRY USING BOTH THE *67* AND THE *57* CODES.. I have read through all the posts so I suggest everyone do the same instead of calling national and questioning the code.

I agree ::yes:: - and thanks for the good news that everything worked :cool1: . I am picking up from the Emerald Aisle, so I just drive up to the booth and hand them my cc and EA card? The 35 dollar coupon is an e coupon, correct?

::yes:: :confused3 :furious: :duck:

id like to see this thread go poof:wizard:

willing to bet that repeated inquiries as to validity & pedigree (as in telling national's rep -i read it on the DIS board, etc) will put the kabosh on it:worried:

tlinus, just drive out to the booth hand them the reservation, your credit card and drivers license and all was good. All they tried to sell was the tank of gas so you could bring it back empty. other than that no problems. Just checked my credit card statement and it was the same as the quote.

And to give you a hint into my personal way of doing things....I almost always have two rental car bookings.....until such time as they require credit card numbers I'll always do this. I had too many times in my working life days that I get there and the "similar" car they want to give me isn't what I want....I have a backup. Saved my bacon once when I booked a van and needed it to seat 8.....I had 8 people....they only had vans on the lot that seat 7, despite my paperwork from the computer showing 8! I walked over to choice number 2, and got my 8 seater. Whew...MIL didn't have to ride on the roof ala Chevy Chase movies.

Am confused how to have a double reservation and not get penalized.
Let's say I have a National ressie; and one for Alamo just in case.

If my National ressie goes through with no issues, how/when do I cancel Alamo? Will I get hit with any charges for cancelling late? I thought I saw on the Alamo site that 24 hours notice must be given to cancel a ressie?

wow... i just booked 9 days in a midsize for $121.00 i used the 67 code and
nd2119071q (for $35 off) coupon not bad:cool1:

Just back from Fort Myers and used the 67 code on Executive Aisle with no problem. I agree that people should read this thread and not call National. Too many calls will result in a change of code. It has happened in the past. This code is good throughout the US according to Flyertalk. If this code is refused, I am sure we will read that here first! So far - no refusals.

Back when this thread first started I called to find out about theses codes and I was told Travel Solutions ID was needed for the 57, 67 and 77 codes. I specifically asked if the 67 code was complimentary and was told no. As noted, many folks have successfully used the 67 code so I don't know what to make of it. I am erring on the side of caution and have not booked using any of these codes. We just returned from MCO today where I got a great rate with the Alamo IG code for last minute rentals. I'm hoping to get comprable rates for our 3 other trips this year. One quick story - When going through the gate (shared by National and Alamo) at MCO on Thursday, we were stuck behind a "problem" customer at the exit gate. You know the ones - where the other two open gates processed four cars while we were stuck behind the car at the gate. (We always pick the wrong lines for everything - Murphy's Law!!!) Then security came. We ended up having to back up and the mini-van returned to the car lot. When we pulled up, DH asked what happened and the attendant said the customer was trying to use a code that they were not qualified for. If I had been driving, I would have tried to ask more questions but DH was frustrated to begin with that we were waiting behind this car for what seemed like an eterenity and he actually "shushed" me up when I tried to get him to ask more questions. Was it really a code or a coupon? Which code? Alamo or National? I suspect it was NOT the 67 code since lots of people have been using it successfully but this incident does tell me that they do some type of monitoring of these things. I suggest anyone using this code should read this full thread first to be fully informed.

Using the WalMart code plus the AD1336ADK coupon, I was able to rent a minivan for $367 at Alamo for 12 days, June 11 to 23. If I use the 67 code it would be $329 at National. Not much difference and a lot less headache....Just FYI

My friend just used code *67 and for the first time the Executive Level. All went well. He said the cars on the Executive Aisle were NICE. He has a full size something, with leather seats, sun roof. Very happy!

Was that Walmart/Alamo $367 "out the door"?....or do you still have $100 or so in fees/taxes/airport concession, etc to add on to that total?

I found several ways to get very close to National's rental...but since that coupon includes all those fees/taxes/airport nothing comes close to the out the door price. We're going for 4 weeks, so that $100 or so becomes more like $300 for our long trip. That's a big difference. Of course, we're not going until November, so hopefully others will keep using the code and reporting if any problems actually crop up. So far, I haven't read on either board of anyone being denied.

The PP who reported on the car in front them being pulled back due to a coupon problem didn't get enough information to know if it was the 57/67 code, or if, perhaps they booked with an Entertainment Book coupon or a AAA rate, and didn't have the proof that the confirmation page says you'll need. Or some other problem.

I always book a back up reservation anyway......normally it's in case I don't like the car choices, or some other minor problem. Twice I've reserved vans because of the number of passengers I had, and even though I had a printed confirmation for a van they didn't have one avaialble......thank heavens I had a second confirmation elsewhere. One of the times I was actually able to get the second company to price match the first one (I didn't tell them I already had a confirmation at a higher price for them...held that in reserve, lol). The other time, it was the last van on the second car's lot, though they said they could get more within the hour....so I didn't have much bargaining chips, lol. But it's very nice to not have to put up with things from the first company knowing I have a second in reserve. Makes them less likely to try to tell me that the rate is different or they don't have the class of car I reserved, etc.....this usually happens in small towns though, not Orlando, where they KNOW you can walk across the carpet and get another car. Small towns tend to not always have a lot of extra cars for walk ups.
