Better Subs Than Subway?

I am an oddball and don't like quiznos. I don't like toasted subs so they just don't do it for me.

I guess I'm an oddball, too ~ we tried Quizno's once and DH and I were both highly disappointed. It wasn't the toasting that was bad, it was that the bread was stale, the meat was chewy and the toppings didn't look fresh at all. I know it was probably that one shop that was doing a horrible job but I've never been able to bring myself to try them again.

Locally we have a couple of really good sub shops ~ Benito's has the best BLT sub (my stomach is growling just thinking about it, LOL), and D'Angelo's has a really good steak and cheese.

OP, not sure if you are anywhere near the downriver area in MI, but if you ever are, try one of those ~ you won't be disappointed! :thumbsup2

As far as edible sandwiches go, Subway is about the lowest. At least around my parts. There are some no name places but, that's never a guarentee of quality. We like Subway, Jason's, Macalisters, Mazzios, and Jimmy Johns.

However if you're looking for cheaper, then I'd say you'll have to try some of the little local places.

unless you've eaten a hoggie from Pa,De or NJ you truely havent eaten a hoggie. Thats all I have to say.:goodvibes

We still have the $5 promotion here.

Jersey Mike's is better. So's Quiznos.

Jimmy John's suck.

If you live near a Wegmans, go there, their subs make Subways (or any other chains) look like kid's meals, plus their quality of meats and bread are phenominal.

We don't have much choice here, but I find the local grocery store delis better than Subway.

We do eat at Subway, but it's for convenience, not quality.

Another Michigander here...

I vote for Tubby's!!! I LOVE their sauce... nothing compares to Tubby's Sub Sauce... and their Pizza Sub isn't bad either!

If you are in the Detroit-area, I vote for Buscemi's Subs. They also have pizza, and usually a party store attatched. You wouldn't think it, but they have AMAZING subs.

But my absolute favorite sub is from Lenny's. OMG :faint: :faint: :faint: Their hot pepper relish is to DIE for. (In MI, you can only find Lenny's in K-Zoo and Warren.) :thumbsup2  :worship: :worship: :worship:

Togo's is our favorite, with Quizno's in second place. We tried a tuna sandwich at Subway recently and was appalled at how little tuna was in the sandwich. I.e. it was spread thin, as opposed to a generous portion in Quizno's tuna melt. Not cheaper, but a much better value.

Gabriels, They have the best steak, cheese and mushroom hoagies. their pepper relish!

Gabriels is located in Ypsilanti and in Canton/westland area that I know of. Not sure if there are other locations. They do have a website.

From one Michigander to another... Jimmy John's. I think that their prices are reasonable and they are much tastier than Subway.

We like Jimmy John's too, but they aren't large enough for me.

odd....it's still going on in Indianapolis.
We still get ours for $5 here as well--and I, as is the OP, in Michigan. Must be the option of the franchisee whether or not to offer the special.

MIGrandma--we also enjoy Hungry Howie's subs on occasion. There isn't a huge selection of them, but the Pizza sub and the Steak & Cheese are pretty tasty. The problem is, they too are around $6 per sub.

Another vote for Firehouse.

I do think they cost more.

Sorry you do not have them in your area!

I forgot about Lenny's! Excellent!

I'd like to reorder
lenny's
togo's
publix
potbelly's
firehouse
Jimmy John's

I miss both Lenny's & Togo's.

OK you rock because my hubby LOVES Penn station and the one we used to go to on Park Road extension near the hospital in the Pineville area near the mall, near DD Peckers, closed down and we thought there were none left in the area. The one you mentioned is even closer to where we live!:cool1:

Glad to help!! :thumbsup2 We live down in Indian Trail, and we have been going to the Providence Rd one for 4-5 years. The owner is really nice.
