My brother-in-law will be graduating from Boy's Town in May. My husband and I have only been to see him in Omaha a couple of times (keep in mind my brother-in-law is nearly 20 years younger than my husband) and we know very little about Omaha.

We are looking for recommendations for a nicer restaurant for a celebration dinner. It seems most of what we can find is a chain, and there is no Zagat's Omaha.

We will have a car, so distance is not really an issue, it needs to be within 45 minutes of Boy's Town.

Thanks in advance for your recommendations.

I was going to post "Mr C's" but then I did a quick search and found out they closed a couple years ago. :(

This might help start your search:

I often use tripadvisor to start my search to get some names, then I go to the individual websites, look over the menu and then see if there are any other reviews.

I too normally use tripadvisor, but Omaha I am told has more than 1000 restaurants. I have spent a good amount of time looking at menus, but most of the recommended places are chains. I am more interested in a local best place. Heck at this point the only consensus on the review websites is that Stella's Burgers is good, the kids graduation dinner may be a burger unless I can get some local opinions. I even called two better hotels in the area and spoke with their concierges and they all recommended chain restaurants!

Anyone know a local place???

We used to live in Omaha and one of the restaurants we miss most is an amazing Italian place called Lo Sole Mio. It's closer to downtown but is definitely nowhere near 45 minutes from Boys Town. I believe they have a website you could take a look at.

Charleston's, Biaggi's, Grisanti's, Lo Sole Mio's, Gorat's for steaks- you could run into Warren Buffet there, but no where near Boys Town. Anthony's, Cascio's, I really can't think of anything "local" that's near Boys Town. Ted Turner's buffalo/steak place is right there along with Charleston's and Biaggi's which is why I mentioned them. Oh, Mahgoney Grill is right there also. Rick's Boathouse but that is downtown too. Kona Grill, Firebird's are at Village Point. Some of these I've heard are chains, just small ones like Charleston's. I don't know if Biaggi's is a chain or not. I'm totally rambling, I'm sorry, my sil made me try a new coffee today and I've had too much, LOL!! The ones I know for sure that are local only are Gorat's, Lo Sole Mio's, Mahgoney Grill (which is close to Boys Town), Rick's Boathouse, Cascio's, Anthony's. I keep thinking of some and then forget, I type too slow. I'll come back when I think of them, I have to get ready to go out. We are going to Firebird's, I've never been there before.

I can't believe I forgot The French Cafe, also Brother Sebastian's, The Drover, Spencer's. I have a couple of others that are at the tip of my brain, a French place out west and an Italian place in the Old Market. I'll keep thinking as I'm getting ready, lol. Oh, the Indian Oven.

They always sell Omaha beef on QVC so I would think there are plenty of places they serve it.

Or maybe there isn't:confused3 and the export it to other places hmmmmm

Good luck

When I lived in Omaha we always went to Johnny's Café.:):worship:
The best steaks in the Midwest for sure. Yum! The T-Bone.;)
Oh and just love and miss the Bohemian Café.
