Right now I have 6nights VWL studio pts and 2nights VWL studio 25% cash discount booked through member services.
Do I decrease my chances of staying in the same room if I change that cash discount to AP discount (if it becomes avail) and book thru CRO? Is AP usually much cheaper than 25%?

I think if you book through CRO you definitely will NOT be staying in the same room.

Yes, you decrease your chances by booking the cash nights through CRO. By booking through MS, you will almost certainly stay in the same room. By booking through CRO, you will have to cross reference the confirmation numbers in both the CRO and MS systems, repeat your request at check in and then hope, hope, hope it all works out - I'm told it usually does. You can at least count on having to go down to the front desk betweeen the points and cash stay to check out and then in again - even if you do get to stay in the same room. You wouldn't have to do that if you book the cash nights through MS.

AP rates can certainly be more than 25%. That said, this year, they seem to be fewer in number and not as generous as in past years. Simply put, more rooms are filling earlier in the booking cycle and Disney doesn't need to offer as much of a discount or as many discounted rooms to fill the resorts. IMHO, the best chance of AP rates are at OKW and SSR (larger resort and more rooms in developer inventory, respectively).

Best wishes -

P.S. If I could get an AP rate that was significantly better than the Member discount, I'd risk changing rooms. I wouldn't do it for less than $50, though, but that's JMHO. YMMV.

when booking thru cro you will more then likely have to move especially if your booked on points at vwl and cash at wl,it will be much cheaper to stay at the wl on cash instead of vwl on cash . thru ms i think ms can not guarantee you will be in the same room but ms can link the two ressies together and when you check in the cm will do all they can do to keep you in the same room. you may have to go down to the front desk on the day you start paying cash to recheck in. the cm will let you know when you check in on points.

I booked my cash nights through CRO at OKW (now, granted, they were only about 50% full). CRO told me to call the desk to ask to stay in the same room. The front desk was very cheerful about it, and told me to ask again when I came to pickup my keys on the morning of my cash stay.

They then called me back about 15 minutes later to say 'no problem, you don't need to move'.

Strangely, when I went to get my keys, I asked again, and the desk clerk said 'no you don't need to move.' He then asked me twice if my bags were packed in the room - I pointed out that I had confrimed that I wasn't moving. (seems like he was on automatic pilot and just asking as a standard question)

So in my case, no, I didn't need to move, and I had a studio right near HH.

I had an AP rate room last May for 1 night at the end of my stay (Friday night). We stayed in the same room with no problem, just had to get new keys.

As long as it's the same unit type, reserved through MS and linked, you will NOT have to move. If it's a different unit type, even a dedicated vs lockoff 2 BR, you likely will have to move. If it's cash through CRO, it's hit or miss. You may or may not have to move but usually do not.

I've done this the last 2 summers at BCV. I reminded the front desk at check-in and they said no problem. The only thing is I had to stop by at the front desk to check out and check back in. I didn this 2 times as we had a 12 day stay. We also didn't get cash cleaning. I called but housekeeping really seemed not to understand so I let it go. Houskeeeping had me on a DVC cleaning schedule.
Since I have 2 daughters, I usually have nothing to do in the morning. As I wait on all the girls to get ready, I go to the front desk and get the new keys. The annual rate has been better but...as CarolMN stated, if it isn't much difference in price, I don't know if I will do it this year.
