I thought some of you might be interested in this email that was sent to me. I wished I'd booked with SWA instead of Delta now.

Today's Hottest Travel Deals from Bestfares.com!

The events of September 11 will forever change the way we travel. Bestfares.com continues to offer its full range of services to consumers. We are also devoting our resources to provide an ongoing stream of information on various travel issues--air travel to cruise schedules--security to passenger's rights.

It will take a long time for travel and the travel industry to recover from the September 11-launched terrorism. In some ways, travel will never be exactly the same.

This e-mail edition includes overviews of some of the subjects we are covering to help ease the days ahead. Each article contains a link to the full story. You can also go to http://www.bestfares.com/travel/desks/desk.asp?desk=news to arrive at our News Desk index, which lists each article by title.

In the coming days we will do our best to devote our resources to the issues of safety, convenience and consumer knowledge, fulfilling our intent to give you the most comprehensive consumer information on the Web.

Immediate Travel

The resumption of commercial air travel in the United States, initially scheduled for noon today, is turning out to be more problematic than initially indicated. Today's flights were limited to service designed to return stranded passengers to their desired destinations and to airlines repositioning diverted aircraft. Service will not be back to anything approaching normal for at least a week.

There will be a thorough search and security check of all airplanes and airports before passengers are allowed to board. Off-airport, curbside check-in and electronic check-in have been discontinued.

Southwest Airlines stands alone in what we have to recognize as the most humane airline rebooking and refund policy in effect. They will grant a refund on any ticket, for any travel dates. The airline that gave consumers the "Freedom to Fly" now extends the freedom not to fly. Hopefully, as reason and thought prevail, travelers will realize that air travel is still very much a part of the fabric of our lives, and take advantage of this policy only to a necessary extent.

Please go to http://www.bestfares.com/travel/desks/story.asp?id=37748 for a selection of current airline policies and travel dates for which no-fee changes and refunds are allowed.

Airport Delays & Changes--A Call For Patience

Nerves already stretched taut by the disaster of September 11, travelers will be further tested in the days ahead. For a rundown on changes in airport procedures (including parking regulations, check-in procedures, gate access and security procedures, please go to

Short-Term Changes & Long-Term Needs

In the days ahead, airlines, airports and government regulatory agencies will be working hard in an effort to safeguard U.S. air travel. There are some immediate changes that will help see us through. There are also some long-term changes that have been too long in the "pending projects" category. For our overview of what is being done and what needs to be accomplished, please access

Your Rights On Refunds, Delays & Denied Boarding

We're in new territory with a never-before Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grounding of U.S. commercial aircraft. We know what the rules are when an airline overbooks, when we cancel travel and when flights are delayed. In our current situation, we will learn a lot about the levels of respect various airlines have for their passengers. To use a Spike Lee film title, we will see if they Do The Right Thing. Go to http://www.bestfares.com/travel/desks/story.asp?id=37768 to learn what the airlines should be doing and how you can do your part to make sure your rights as a traveler are protected.

Know What To Expect At The Airport Before You Go

It's going to be a whole new world at U.S. airports in the days and weeks to come. Boston Logan and other airports have worked to comply with new Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) security measures. They're towing cars left without drivers, sweeping terminals for bombs, tightening access to secured areas, adding uniformed and plain clothes police presence and stepping up the number of random identification checks.

Many airports are requesting that passengers limit carry-on items as much as possible. They advise that passengers should expect extensive questioning prior to ticketing and boarding and multiple security screenings at security checkpoints and prior to boarding.
