We have been to DL a few times, but this is the first time we'll be staying offsite. I'm really confused as to where to book! We got a great discount at Best Western Stovall's which looks like an ok place. We also booked Desert Palms through Expedia, which also has great reviews. Our biggest concerns are walking distance to the parks (more for our 6 and 9 year olds), free breakfast and free parking. They both seem just as close to the parks and serve free breakfast. Best Western charges for parking, but even with that added in it's a lot less money. Is Desert Palms worth the extra cost or will we be ok at Best Western?

I haven't ever stayed at Desert Palms, but we stayed at Stovall's this past October for 3 nights. Our room as VERY clean and we REALLY enjoyed our stay there. The hot breakfast satisfied us every morning. And you can take a piece of fruit with you to snack on later. The pools were very clean. I would totally stay here again without hesitation. The staff were very friendly and helpful. And Marri's Pizza is just 2 doors down...the 4 of us (me, DH, ODD9, YDD7) ate there for $45 including tip! And the portion sizes were quite large. We took our leftovers with us to the room. The rooms have microwave ovens. Very handy!

The walk from Stovall's to the Esplanade took us 10-15 min depending on how energetic or tired we were. After 3 days in a row, on the evening of day #3, we were pretty pooped from all the walking, but honestly it felt about the same length of walk as when we stayed at the Disneyland Hotel 3 years ago.

I would stay at Desert Palms again, absolutely (I have not stayed at Stovalls). And it's just across the street from the CVS with essentials like water, nutella, some fruit, wine, and Haagen Dasz bars for way cheaper than you're going to get at the parks.

Are you comparing apples to apples with room size, by the way?

Palms you just exit and go up Harbor to the parks.
Stovalls you cross Katella and go up this street to the Grand, enter, turn left, follow signs to DTD, turn right into DTD and get to the opposite bag check as you would from Harbor.
