We stayed there on October 24th. This is our first choice for hotels in the area, because of the location! Rooms are clean, staff is nice, but really, we just use it to sleep. Breakfast includes one type of egg, potatoes, meat, donuts, bread, pastries, yogurt, cereal and fruit. Very basic, but free!
I've read some pretty negative comments from last month on travel sites regarding bad breakfast and rude staff....I don't know if it's grumpy people or a real concern. Oh well, we're booked for next week anyway!
I haven't stayed there since the breakfast room re-opened, but I usually stay at the BWPPI (last stay was at the end of September). The rooms are serviceable; nothing fancy or special, but acceptable. It's a motel and it looks and feels like a motel. The rooms are older looking and could stand be be renovated (which they said will happen next year). The beds are comfortable enough and there has always been plenty of towels and hot water. The front desk staff is hit-or-miss. Some of them are really nice/personable and others are not (one of the managers is pretty brusque - she's been that way every time I've deal with her, so I think that's just her personality).
I managed to snag a last minute reservation here for Thanksgiving - 25th - 28th and have another one for Dec. 7th-12th. I've never stayed but overall hear great things overall from many DISers over the years.
The podcast is a great listen but have to giggle at the hatred of bamboo..LOL. Listen to it and you'll understand http://www.disunplugged.com/2015/03/02/dis-unplugged-podcast-030115-disneyland-show/
Since most of our time is park time ( just 2 adults) I feel the location especially given the busy times is a deal in itself.
We do like to take a midday break and I feel this makes it much easier than worrying about parking or taking the toy story shuttle , which we do often.
I
Most places we stay usually don't even offer breakfast ( Super 8 on Katella being the exception) so I take it as a plus even if we don't use it everyday.
Can anyone tell me how the current BW Park Place Inn breakfast compares to the Candy Cane Inn breakfast? I haven't stayed at either. We have reservations at CCI but I'm thinking of trying to switch to BWPPI just for the location.

I can only speak for what Ive read about BWPPI. I've stayed CCI once and it was wonderful. Their shuttle is always on time and friendly ( pending traffic that's unavoidable)
CCI offers in the morning is great you get donuts, bagels, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, cheese, toast, pastries, banana, apples, coffee, apple juice, milk, cereal.
BWPPI from their website : Each guest can enjoy a complimentary continental breakfast buffet that includes: sliced bread, croissants, cereal, oatmeal, egg patties, waffles, sausage, fruit & yogurt as well as coffee, juice and milk.
Ok, we are here right now. Impressions: (mind that I am spoiled due to living in Florida and get the chance to always stay at the Disney bubble)
It's a motel/hotel. Nothing super fancy and the rooms are on the all stars resort side of small.
You can't beat the location, it's super close to Disneyland proper (about the same walk as Contemporary to MK, maybe shorter)
You aren't in the bubble. There are homeless nearby, like any city, which makes things a bit uncomfortable. Here you are walking with your family on a great vacation while someone is asking you for money, coffee or cigarette. Not a pretty site, sad state of affairs for America. Meanwhile, both Disneyland hotel and Grand Californian put you in a little bubble of alternate reality. But I felt relatively safe for any large city. It's kinda like the Vegas strip or International Drive hotels.
I will report back on food.
But, I am spoiled, having stayed at Disneyland Hotel 2x. It's lovely. But BW is ok so far.
We stayed there in August and think it's one of the better hotels along Harbor. The two-queen, 1 sofa bed suite was a good size and worked well for our family of four. The room was very clean and we always had plenty of towels, soap, etc. We were there before the breakfast room was remodeled, but we enjoyed the breakfast every morning. The food was good as far as free hotel breakfasts go. The walk to the parks can't be beat. The staff members we encountered were all nice. We will stay there again if we get the chance.
Can anyone comment on the pool? We will have a 4 year old with. Right now HoJo is our first choice because of their pool set up, but I'd prefer something closer. Park Place Inn has caught my eye.

It is a very basic pool (just a rectangular hole in the ground ), so HOJO's pool area will be MUCH better. However, I guess it depends on what you want from the pool, and how important the walk is to you. The close walk is HUGE for us, but if you have a kid in a stroller, maybe not such a big deal.
