best week in january

Just got back from a fantabulous week at Disney & I am ready to plan my next. My Husband and I have been going the second week in Dec. for years and love it. This year we are doing a big family thing and have decided to go the month of Jan. So my question is....what is the best week to go??? I know this is generally a slow month. Need some Jan. pointers please. thanks so much!

Just avoid New Year's week and the parks will be pretty empty.

But be aware that many of the "big ticket" attractions are refurbed in January, and the parks are usually not open as long as they are in December.

2nd, 3rd or 4th week would be good!

We usually try to hit the parks toward the end of the month, because the crowd is next to nothing. I have found, like Bob P, that some rides are closed in Jan. I know this Jan Splash Mountain is due for maintenance. Check the DIS homepage and you can find a schedule of what is due to be closed before you go.

Whenever you go in Jan (aside from New Years) it is going to be a nice trip. Have fun!

Also avoid the WDW Marathon and MLK weekend. With that in mind, we choose the last week in January (and first week in February).

It's the weekend after New Year's.

We have annual passes so the first year of the pass we go late in January and then the next year we'll go the 2nd week in January so we always get at least two trips from each pass - plus any extra trips I can sneak in!!!

We have been to Disney 4 times - 3 trips in January and 1 trip in August. January wins, hands down! We went right after New Years last year and it was great - no waits and the CM's seemed happy to be done with the Holiday crowds. This year we are going the third week of January. The parks do close earlier - but you don't need as much time to tour b/c you don't spend as much time waiting in lines. Weather can be a bit unpredictable and on the chilly side.
