My DW will be running the Disney Marathon in Jan 2014 and the whole family is going. DD6 DS8 and me coming along. What is the best resort with heated water features jacuzzis etc to best accommodate the somewhat chilly Jan temps? Anything DLX and below (don't think we can swing villas).

If you rent points for a DVC villa, it tends to be right around the price of a moderate, or between a moderate and deluxe (depending on the type of villa you want/need.) I'd strongly recommend looking into that if price is a factor in your decision.

For weatherproofing, any of the resorts that are one building? Like WL, AKL, BC/YC, etc. all resorts have heated pools, and all mods & deluxe ( except Poly) have hot tubs.

Oh? How do you rent points? We are not DVC or anything

WL is such a cozy resort. It has a heated pool and 2 hot tubs. They also have villas if you were thinking about renting a villa. Any deluxe would be good really.

The temperatures could be in the 80's during the day for the marathon. We've been several times for the marathon and have had temps in the 40's and in the 80's.

You might have a hard time finding a villa for the marathon time. It's very popular with DVC members.

If you're referring to the full marathon in January, I believe it begins and ends in Epcot so BC/YC may be good choices for their close proximity. BWI is also pretty close. Just something to consider.

It starts and ends in the Epcot parking lot. Epcot isn't open when runners need to get to the start, so they must take a bus from the Epcot resorts. And to get back to their Epcot resort, they must have park admission to enter the park to walk through it. So it is bus again from the end of the race to YC, BC, BW, etc.

I would look into the Boardwalk area resorts. The marathon runs through the Epcot resort area before the runners enter Epcot to finish. The runners will be spaced out by then and its a great spot to actually see your runner run by, plus I think seeing their family helps with that final push to the finish! The BC has a fabulous pool that is heated and toasty when we have stayed there in December.

All the pools are heated at WDW. Not hot, but slightly warm.

We were at the Dolphin during the week of the marathon. It was in the 80's all week, sat on the balcony and watched dome of the runners, then went to HS and cheered them at the entrance for to hours in the sun! Went back to the Dolphin and swam in the pool the rest of the afternoon. Lol

the values do not have a hot tub.

moderates, deluxes (except for now Polyn) and DVC do have at least one.

now with dvc if you get a 1-bedroom villa - you get one in your room....

AKL has 2 outside
OKW & SSR has one at each swimming pool
CR has 1
blt has 1
not sure gf

bc has 1
yc has 1
bcv has 1
they also share and there is another one at the main pool

bw has one at each pool - so 3

WL has 2 one cool and one hot
VWL has one

CSR has 1
POR has 1
pofq has 1
cbr has 1

these are the ones outside.

I think Stormalong Bay has 2 or 3, and then each quiet pool has one, too.

I would say the best weatherproof resort would be the Contemporary / BLT. You can access the monorail without ever having to step outside. I agree with pp that renting points is a great way to stay in some of the nicest places in wdw. You will give up daily housekeeping and often the furnishings are not as fancy as the true deluxes, but they are all wonderful.

My husband has run the marathon a number of times...sometimes it is hot and humid, other times quite chilly. January can be unpredictable. As a spectator, if you are going to the finish line and hoping to see him at some point(s) along the way, the monorail resorts would be perfect and my first choice. I used to take him to the start (there were buses but he preferred to be driven), see him running down Main Street of the MK, and then at the finish at Epcot. I rode the monorails.
