Celiac diets - gluten free foods (ie wheat allergies)

What would be the best p;laces to make ADR's ?
I know I can call Disney Dining for special meals at HDD - but what about breakfast at Cindy's ? Would Chef Mickeys make a gluten free Mickey waffle ?

Well I am so glad you asked, my son is Celiac and we did WDW in 2006, and I am currently planning our sept 08 trip. Just to let you know it was so easy to deal with Celiac at Disney that this is the only place we want to travel to now. I would recommend the dining plan since the restaurants are the easiest to eat at. We had a counter service brunch everyday and table service (restaurant) meal for dinner each night.

Make sure when you make your ADR's have them make a note of Celiac on your file and remind the hostess when you arrive at the restaurant that you will need to see the chef. They are fantastic. The chef will come out and walk you through the buffet or talk you through the menu. They will tell you what is already ok and what they can make as a gluten free option. The chef's also offered to make all kinds of extra's for my son that were not on the menu. Also ask for the chef# for each restaurant so you can call them a few days before you eat there. This will ensure they have fresh gf items for you dinner.

Here is where we ate:

All Star Movies cafe my son ate taco salad and had milk and a Itzakadoozie popsicle.

Boma this was a fantastic buffet and they had alot of gluten free options as well as making him a large platter of things he liked such as ribs and shrimp. He had enough food in front of him for three hardy eaters.

Peco's Bill he had a 1/4 pound cheeseburger, fries and pop, with an icecream bar for dessert. I believe he had the burger without bun but alot of the counter service places have gf buns if you ask.

Chef Mickey's he found a lot of items he could have on the buffet but they will bring you items from the kitchen to limit cross contamination. He was really impressed with the tapioca buns.

Cosmic Rays Starlight Cafe chicken dinner this is rather large but tasted really good.

Crystal Palace great buffet he really enjoyed the garlic shrimp.

Leaning Palms (Typhoon Lagoon) a cheeseburger

Hoop Dee Do Revue this meal was a little trickier as they bring everything out in shifts. They brought out cornbread for instance but didn't have an option for him so he just had to sit and wath the restaurant eat their bread. He was able to have the salad, the beans were fine but he doesn't like them and they made him his own chicken and ribs which actually looked a lot better than ours. They brought out a strawberry shortcake for dessert but the only option for him was a small bowl of vanilla icecream. He didn't complain but I could see he was disappointed. I really enjoyed the show. Oh yeah it was freezing in here they were handing out table cloths to wrap around kids. My children both asked for one.

Pizza Planet they have a gluten free pizza it's not listed on the board but you just have to ask. It does take longer since they have to cook it next door. It was nothing special tasted like frozen pizza for the grocery store but my son was thrilled with being able to get gf pizza out.

Hollywood and Vine the food was pretty good here and they did make him extra items again. One thing I have to mention about this restaurant is that the seats are metal and the air conditioning is turned really high. We were freezing. My kids were covering themselves with their napkins.

Flame Tree BBQ this was a fantastic counter servise option. The food was good and we didn't have to ask for anything special.

Cape May cafe my son loved the sea food options here. The food was good but didn't really stand out as spectacular. I was just really pleased that he could eat his fill on all the sea food he wanted. He thought it was a fantastic restaurant.

Lotta Watta Lodge he had a hamburger on a bun. This was exciting because he had never eaten a bun before. I had bought some when he was younger but he wouldn't eat them. He still talks about this place.

Spoodles this is one of our favorite restaurants. They made him gf pasta and a make your own icecream sundae for dessert.

Cantina de San Angel they had really good mexican food options. We really enjoyed this counter service.

By having an idea of where we were eating each of our meals and roughly what my ds would eat we made gf eating a lot easier. I would have to say the hardest place to find gf food was our hotel they just didn't have a lot of options other than the taco salad. We are going to eat our arrival day lunch at the Pepper Market this time instead.

Please feel free to email me if you need more info or help. I know how confusing it can be.

Oh and yes I do believe Chef Mickey's makes gf waffles but you need to call ahead to make sure they can do that for you. They will also bring eggs etc from the kitchen so they are "clean".

StaceyCanada - Thank you so much for the info. Our DD was just diagnosed with Celiac.

Thank you for the information. Our daughter was also recently diagnosed. Traveling in Aug. We have an ADR at Spoodles and that was one that I was wondering about.

Thanks again. It is nice to know there is somewhere easy to travel to with a restricted diet.
