In the past, I have always used the drop down options during online check-in, even my trip this past July. But for our trip last weekend, the drop down options were finicky, some days they would show the same thing on both, then nothing, then something completely different - including sections that weren't even in that hotel. I decided to have my TA just call and put the requests directly onto my reservation. And much to my very pleasant surprise, all three of my requests were met. Usually I get 1 out of 2, sometimes 2 out of 2, and once 0 out of 2, but this time I hit the jackpot. I would just call them and have them note it on your reservation...
