Best way to request a specific location in the resort?

I know I've seen it posted here before, but I cannot find it now. We are heading to AKV next month, and I've already made the request with MS, but I remember reading something about contacting the resort directly a few days before check-in. Can someone remind me of what it is I should do to have the best chance of getting the location I want?

For DVC reservations, requests can only be noted on your reservation. The resort will not accept them.

For us, we typically will note them on the reservation and mention them again at checkin. The room is typically already asigned but we've had some great CM's change them on the spot when we arrive to acccomodate us - doesn't ALWAYS happen -but worth a try
