Hello! We’re hoping for guidance on the best way to rent a vehicle for an upcoming trip. In short, we are selling my elderly father’s condo in south Florida and need a way to bring his personal belongings back home up north. Furniture and other large items will remain behind.

We are driving from northern Ohio will be in Florida for a week. What is the best and most reasonable way to rent? I see good deals on Hertz cargo vans, but will they be comfortable enough to drive cross country in? And will they be a pain when running errands and such on city streets? Should we go with a large SUV or minivan instead? And are there any good deals to be found anymore?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

@TinkOhio, I guess a lot will really depend on how much stuff you plan to bring back. Hertz is probably just your standard van, seats should be fairly comfortable and size would be reasonable, should be able to bring a lot back without risking damage to the inside of the van. I'd price out a Hertz van as well as check with UHaul. Problem with the SUV or minivan are the seats will eat up a lot of space. Availability of passenger vehicles has been a problem, but unsure around your area though. Would it be an option to fly down and get a 1-way rental coming back?

Thanks for the information. You are so right about seats taking up space.

I’ll have to check and see if flying down will be cost efficient. We will still need a vehicle down there for running errands and meetings before coming home.

@TinkOhio you may want to price out a normal rental car for errands and then get the van a day before you are ready to pack up and come home. Hard to say without knowing the pricing what your best option is for you. I'm used to driving a full size van around but parking them can be a pain if you're not used to them.
