Best Way to Rent a Villa?

We would like to rent a 1BR villa at WL for 2 nights.
If we rent it now through the Disney site and they have a Dec. discount can we get the price adjusted then?
If we rent through somewhere else not sure how to do it safely. Not sure about how the money is transferred?

Before we became DVC owners, we booked a 2 bedroom villa at OKW on cash points via the official UK site, which was offering a great promotion at that time (35% off plus !! free dining). They did not offer such discounts on the Wildn Lodge Villas though. Then it turned out we needed another two nights, but the promotion had passed so I turned to renting points from someone. It went really well, but best is to read up about it on the DVC sub boards here. You could rent via a third party like David's rental (never tried it) or choose someone who's got a good track record on these boards (like we did). But it's always a sort of gamble of course.

If you book a villa through Disney, you can alter your reservation if any discounts can be applied to it. Booking a villa through Disney is subject to the same payment and cancellation policies as any other Disney Resort room.

If you "rent" DVC points, you are actually renting a reservation from a DVC member. The DVC member retains total control of the reservation and all changes must be made through them. If you are dealing with an individual member, the conditions for payment and the method of payment are up to them. If you are using a 3rd party, such as David's Vacation Club Rentals, the terms and method of payment are clearly outlined on their website.
