Best Way to rate a DVC renter?

Hi all,
I'm renting points for the first time.

He had references, and has so far been very professional with me.

I was just wondering is there any board here (or anywhere for that matter), where people can post that their experience with someone has been reputable and smooth?

This goes for Renters and Rentees. I think that everyone wants to know that the other party is going to follow through.

Does anyone just post here that, "I had a great experience renting with <name here> ?

If so, I guess I could try to search the board, but it may be tricky.

This is both so that I can look him up to assuade my last minute jitters, as well as hopefully report a solid transaction come January.

techinically I believe it's not allowed on the boards - but I would recommend doing a search of all the posts they've done - just to get an idea of what they are like on the boards. It's amazing what you can tell from reading the types of responses that are written!

Obviously for legal reasons but if you don't feel comfortable, ask for references/e-mail addresses and really check them out. Most DVC renters will not mind giving you advice IMO
You can always offer to pay a portion up front and the rest at a later date if that would make you feel comfortable.
Just remember, you're dealing with a private party over the internet so you must do your homework. With that said, I've never heard of any renter getting ripped off since I've been on this board.

Anyone is welcome to state they had a positive rental experience on the DVC Planning Board. That has always been allowed.

Since we will not get involved in any rental disagreements, we will consider negative comments about a specific transaction to be an attack- and not allowed by the site guidelines. We will not arbitrate rental disputes. At one time, the DIS was going to have an eBay-styled system for DVC rentals, including a feedback system- but the outcry against such a change was very loud. The program was dropped and is unlikely to resurface again.

That said, there have been a grand total of two negative experiences reported in the last 7 years- one about a member and one about a renter.

I would research posts by anyone posting on our boards to get a feel for their personality. If they have had limited posts, I would ask for (and do a follow up check on) references. I would also get a personal address and phone number and speak with them on the phone.

Even though personal comments are allowed, there have been few reported on the board over the years. Feel free to report any positive experiences. Negative experiences are also welcome- just leave out the names.
