Best way to pick up rental car during a magic kingdom day?

We will be taking ME to WDW, staying at Coronado springs - arriving on a Thursday, going to MK on Friday, and need to rent a car to go to Port Canaveral for cruise on Saturday (scheduled port arrival time is 11:30). This is over spring break so the cheapest I've been able to find for a one day one way rental is Avis for $80. I know that's high but wondering what's the best most time saving, yet cost effective way to do this? We want to rent a car instead of cruise transfer as its cheaper and want to make a grocery/drink stop on way to port.

Suggestions? My main concern is wasting a lot of time renting the car during our magic kingdom day. I didn't want to wait til Sat morning but maybe that's what I should do, so they can pick us up from the resort ... Right now I'm scheduled to pick up the car on Friday afternoon but re-thinking that. I worry though about getting my family ready and out of the resort early Sat morning too though.

well, we were not trying to catch a cruise but we did go to Kennedy Space Center for a day while staying at Wilderness Lodge. We rented a car from the car care center on Disney Property. They sent a van to pick us up in the morning around 7am to take us to pick up the rental car. We were in the parking lot of Kennedy before 9am. You could also pick up the car that morning and then drive back to the hotel to pick up the family and luggage....not sure how time consuming that would be.

Alamo is at the car care center is located right outside the MK. They will pick you up at your resort and take you to the rental office. But they will only take the renter on the shuttle. So have your family take the bus to MK and you can meet them after you pick up the car.

Remember to ask for a parking pass when you check into the resort you will need this to avoid paying for parking at MK.

As for your rental rent, keep looking the prices may come down as you get closer to your trip. I never book a car until 7-10 before we leave. For example I looked a few weeks ago for an Alamo car and the price was several hundred dollars.. Well I am now pick up my car this week and only paying $92 for the week.

Alamo/National will also pick you up at Ticket & Transportation (since you will be at the Magic Kingdom) - you do not need to go back to your resort.

When we rented last spring from the Care Car Center, the shuttle came to the resort and picked up 4 adults (one being the renter) and a child plus another party had 2 adults and 2 kids. It wasn't a problem. They just needed to know ahead of time so they could send a big enough van!
