With all the experience on this board, what seems to be the best / worst / least stressful way to go about making Disney Resort reservations? On-line to Disney.com; over the phone; on-line via a service like Expedia.com? Or any others?

I read so many notes where people have problems with phone reservations and it seems to be mostly a problem on the "Disney" side (you either get someone on the phone who doesn't know what they're doing or doesn't want to take the effort to give good service). So, how do you know if you're getting what you really want and getting the best deal? How do you know when to hang up and call back later for a different person?

I have not had a bad experience online making reservations. If you are going for a discount on a room only reservation, then sometimes you have to "find" it on the website. For spring discounts thru 4-17, I made mine online thru WDW. Expedia had the same discounted room only rates as WDW, but I was trying for CSR which expedia did not have all nights available for. Turns out WDW did not either, so I got CBR. I think it can be less hassle sometimes to fo it online with a little research on rates. I got an immediate confirmation by e-mail.

I've never had problems with phone reservations. People are much more likely to post problems than no problems.

Many of the complaints revolve around confusion when people have multiple reservations at different resort and are constantly changing dates, resorts and keep trying to add discounts. Nothing wrong with making changes BUT it does increase the chances of mistakes and miscommunication.

Unless you are looking to book a room at a discounted rate I would do it online. But if you want to book an AP rate then best to go thru the phone.

The only way I have EVER done it - and I have never had a problem - is by calling Central Reservations. I confirm before proceeding that I am making it through Central Reservations so that I have the 5-day cancellation policy. I made my latest reservation yesterday and the CM I got told me she could book it either way (CRO or WDTravel) and proceeded with my request. My deposit is the amount of one night's lodging, including tax, and my balance is at the time of my stay. And I can cancel up to 5 days ahead and get a full refund. With WDTC, I believe the deposit is $200, regardless, but your balance is due before you even arrive. I love the flexibility of going thru CRO.
