Best way to get to Campfire

We're arriving at WDW tomorrow and staying at VWL. We would like to go to the Chip n Dale campfire at Fort Wilderness. Any ideas on the best way to get there (boat, drive, etc.)?

Any other thoughts on the campfire? Do we need to take a blanket to sit on? etc.?

There are benches to sit on facing the stage/screen with the campfire to right. They sell the makings for smores and sticks to toast marshmellows.

The campfire is not near the marina. From VWL, take the boat over and then walk over to the bus depot. Take the internal bus over to the campfire. When we went a few years ago, the kids really enjoyed it.

It is my understanding that anyone can go to the campfire not just VWL guest. Is that correct? If it is how can I find out more about it?

Yes, it is open to any WDW resort guest.

Unless they moved it, it's been about 6 years since we took the camper down. It's down by the pool area for the campground. You can walk to it from the Marina area, so I guess that means you can walk from VWL also. You can always take a bus back if the little ones get tired, but it's a very enjoyable walk over. had a site very close to the campfire when we last camped there and often walked to the Marina area. Used to be a small water park near there but I think they closed it since opening the big ones.

Just tell the FW bus driver where you are going, he will make sure you get off on the right stop. It is the same stop as the general store.

From VWL, take the boat over and then walk over to the bus depot.

Make sure you know when the last boat leaves the Marina. You may not be able to take a boat back to VWL if you watch the whole movie since it'll shut down before then. At that point, they'll have a bus you can jump on.

hey I would just take the bus. It is generally faster than the boat (although not as much fun).

It stops at the VWL bus stop.

I think it would be quite a hike all the way to the campfire from VWL. I believe the trail is 1 mile then the campfire is at the Meadows compund which is in about the center of the park.
