We're splitting our stay next year with a few nights at Disneyland then 2 nights in Hollywood. What would be better - taking a cab or hiring a private transfer company?

We rented a car from Budget in Anaheim to Budget in Hollywood. The mid-size was about $35 for the day and we got 24 hours to drive all around Bev Hills and see the homes etc, even went to the beach.
Price depends on which day of the week you rent.

To go into Hollywood for day trips (slightly different to you though!) We got the Amtrak to Union Station and the Metro from there into Hollywood!

A cab from Radisson Maingate on Harbor S. to Amtrak was $8-10 (roughly depending on traffic) And the Amtrak to Union was $10 per person and an all day metro red line pass was $5.

We found this a real easy way to travel and the metro was not too busy to take cases and strollers from what we saw!

The Metrolink commuter trains, which use the same stations and track as Amtrak, allow you to use their tickets on the MTA subway and other transit:

Plus it's a little cheaper than Amtrak, albeit less comfortable.

I also recommend taking the amtrack train. I communte alot from los angeles to san diego and it doenst let me down. Much cheaper than a cab.

Why don't you just rent a car and drive into Hollywood? We just stayed 2 nights at Magic Castle Hotel and my husband told me we're not staying at any more hotels in hollywood. It was not that bad of a drive from Anaheim, just hop on the 101.

If we didn't have kids, it would not have been that bad. While we were there 2 nights this past monday and tuesday, they were giving Ricky Martin his hollywood walk star, and the opening premiere of 30 Days of Night. I wanted to watch and wait for the stars, but my husband didn't want the kids exposed to the 'weirdos' hanging around (there were A LOT of them!)

I'm not trying to alter your entire vacation, but why are you staying in Hollywood? It is absolutely the opposite of Disneyland so maybe you are going for contrast during your vacation.

Hollywood is dirty, dangerous, and full of prostitutes and addicts, most of whom are children! And what is worse is that there is very little to "see." There are some historical theaters where they sometimes have premieres, there are brass stars in the sidewalk, some handprints in cement, and the Fredrick's of Hollywood "museum."

I understand spending a few daylight hours there, but I would discourge anything more especially if you have children.

Thanks for all your comments and suggestions.:thumbsup2

However, I think the train or a transfer company will probably work best for us - we're from a small town in Scotland and I don't want to attempt to drive in LA - in all our visits to WDW, I've never driven there either!:lmao:

We are staying at the Hollywood Renaissance adjacent to the Hollywood and Highland Centre which is close to Disney's Soda Fountain, El Capitan Theater, etc so will probably only be out and about during the day. I am aware that it can be a dangerous place, but we will be extra vigilant and we'll try not to look too much like tourists!:rotfl2:

DH really wants to visit a particular tattoo parlour whilst we're in LA, and I think our best option was to stay nearby in Hollywood and take a cab there.:hippie:

Well, after thinking over our ressies for quite a while, we finally went ahead and changed them! Now we'll be staying at DL only and will either take the train into Hollywood (if we decide to "go it alone") or will use a tour company.

Safety - especially since we will have our DD with us - was the main factor for us re-thinking our plans. ;)

Thanks again for all your advice. :goodvibes
