Can anyone tell me the best way to get from AKL to Vero Beach? We are taking our first trip to Vero Beach in a couple of weeks - YIPPEE !!!!!! I am soooo looking forward to our trip there. Also, can anyone tell me how dinner is at Shutters and Sonya's? Thanks for all your help !!!::cool1::cool1:

I'm unclear as to if you're asking method or directions?

Method = rental car

directions, I'd get on the beachline then swing south on RT A1A

As to shutters & sonya's I think their both fine...if you're there on a sat - catch the character bfast. On sundays they have a brunch that's fanastic!

HTH

I love to drive the long way. I take Interstate 4 to US1 and drive along the beach. I look at the beach houses for sale and dream. Great drive. I foreget the fast way but I am sure that someone else knows.

Opinions on the restaurants vary but I did not like either shutters or Sonya's and they are right next to one another. I personally think both restaurants are the same because they are next to one another and may share the same kitchen. People have given the restaurants great reviews so it may just be me.

One of my favorite places to eat is sitting out on the deck outside the green cabin. You can order quick food like pizza and burgers and appitizers. Great view and good food.

They will give you a list of local restaurants at the desk. They are very good but don't expect much decor. Squid Lips is a favorate, but it looks like a bar with flimsy plastic windows but great food and the atmosphere kind of grows on you.

As a matter of fact the whole resort grows on you. First time that we went, we felt kind of disappointed because it was different than what we expected. Strange thing but 6 mo latter could not wait to go back. We just love the place now. Kids favorite resort now (No rides, no fireworks, No Disney???)...

Think of it as an adventure and you will have a great time. Try the morning nature walk along the beach with the tour guide. Also the camp fire at night is great

oops !!!! - should have mentioned by car - sorry !!!!
Thanks for the great info on Vero Beach !!!! We are staying the first 4 nights at AKL and then 3 nights at Vero. I am really looking forward to seeing a different Disney resort and relaxing at the beach with hubby. I made a reservation for Sonya's for one of the 3 nights that we are there. Some of the other places that I read were good - Lemon Tree, Squid Lips, Ocean Grill and Green Cabin Room. Also, will we see any turtle nesting the first week in May?
Thanks for everyones help !!!!!!!:cool1::cool1:

I was there the first week of May last year and there wasn't any nesting.

Rte 528 to Rte 95S is the fastest route. Not sure what exit is best for Vero, but the resort (or someone here) can tell you.

I took A1A last March on a Saturday. I won't do that again. Too many trailers, motor homes, etc on the road going very slowly. It was a pretty drive but frustrating.
