Best way to evaluate a new lens?

Hi All,

My new lens (Nikkor 70-200) will be making its arrival early next week

Do any of you have any special methods or techniques for evaluating performance and possible issues/defects with new glass? I shoot DX format, so some characteristics are not as critical as others (although if anyone has a D3 they want to exercise I would be more than happy to oblige )
