We recently had our hardwood floors refinished. They look great but I am having a hard time finding something that will do a quick clean without leaving a dull film. I have been using the Swiffer wet but don't like the results on the wood. For REAL cleaning I use Murphy's Oil Soap but don't want to have to get the mop etc out for each wipedown.

Thanks

Bumping as I would like to know as well.
I just bought a house that has a large number of wood floors and I have no clue w/out the Swiffer to use.

Someone suggested for our new wood floor "BRUCE dura-luster no-wax Floor Cleaner . You use this wide swiffer type thing with a terry cloth cover that is washable and the cleaner. the website is

Whatever you do.......don't spray a dust mop with Pledge to make em shiny.........I did that & everyone kept wiping out.....feet would immediatly go out from under them!!
:rotfl: funny now....not funny when your MIL is on her bottom on your floor!

I was young..................I had no clue it would make em slippery:p

We bought a CHEAP version of the Shmop (the wide Swiffer-type mop with the terry cloth cover) at WalMart. You spray the Murphy's on it, and then just run it over the floors. This is what my cleaning ladies used (when I could afford/justify cleaning ladies!) except that they had the expensive version.

I got a couple of the covers. I can use one on the wood floors with the Murphy's, and one on the kitchen tile with floor cleaner. (I put the terry cloth cover into the bowl of floor cleaner, wring it out, and then put it on the mop.)

Our floor installer recommended a product called Bona. Its a water based wood floor cleaner and so far it has worked great. You just spray it on the floor and go over it with a cloth covered Swiffer type dry mop. Very easy.

Whatever you do, do not use a wet swiffer!! Everything I've read says that it will only dull the finish.

When I wanted to have my floors screened, rather than refinished completely, I told the refinisher that I had used Murphy's and he said that we needed to refinish them at that point. Murphy's contain oil and he doesn't suggest it for finished floors. I use a mild detergent and just a little on a shmop.

Murphy's Oil Soap pretty much ruined my hardwood floors. I think that stuff works okay on floors that are NOT finished and must be waxed. If you have a finish on your floors, factory done or site done--you aren't really supposed to do much to them. I have several floor installers tell me to use vinegar and water. I fill my sink up with it, about half and half, put a dish rag in and get down and wipe or I put the rag under my foot if I'm feeling lazy. I then quickly go over the wet surface with a dry rag. The vinegar/water solution leaves them feeling wonderfully residue-free and won't build up.

I did buy the Bruce Dura-Luster before and it made my floor look dull. Stay away from the Swiffer stuff.

We've always used the Bruce Dura-Luster - since we have Bruce hardwood floors. I've always been happy with it.

This has been bugging me for years! On a friend's advice, I finally bought a Shmop type thing (at Bed, Bath, & Beyond) and use Orange Clean squirt & mop stuff. I like the mop, but I'm not crazy about the cleaner so I'm going to try other stuff.
