New to the boards and Disney first timer. What is the best way to carry tickets and photopass card? We are not staying on property. Do you need to have your photo pass card available for every photo op?

You will need your photopass card for every time one of thier photogs takes your photo. If you can't find it they will just give you another one so it isn't a big deal.

I like using a lanyard with a card holder around my neck for my tix, fastpasses, room key, and photopass card. You can get some cheap ones at Walmart type stores or an office supply store. But I do like the Disney ones so I use theirs. I think it was less than $20 to get a lanyard I liked, and the card holder. I use it quite a bit so it is worth it.

Some people use fanny packs to keep their things in, or just put them in their pockets. I just like the ease of having it all together and easy to get to around my neck, but I know others don't want something hanging around their neck. It is a matter of personal preference.

I am also a bit scatterbrained (shut up Kaylajr!) so if I didn't keep it all together I would never find anything. And I tend to drop things out of my pockets or bag.

I agree about using the lanyard with plastic pouch. I use it to carry our room keys, id, park tickets and FP's. If you go to a water park and have any photo pass pics taken there, they will give you a photopass card on a bracelet. I saved mine from previous trips and now wear my photopass on my wrist so its always easily accessible. :thumbsup2

I've never been there either. I ordered lanyards from Disney. They were on sale 1/2 price at disneyshopping.com

They have a clear plastic ticket holder, plus another clip for holding other stuff and the whole bottom can clip off.

I ordered 2 for my 2 older kids too.

My DH didn't want one so I'm sure he'll work out some other way of carrying them.

Do the lanyards get hot around your neck in the summer heat?

You don't have to get the thick strapped ones. You can go to Staples or Office Depot and get the ones that are just cords around your neck with the plastic pouch attached.

Thanks for the info! I too was wondering if I would like something around my neck when it is so hot!

Staples has them? I know someone else said to try Claires.

I have no clue about Claires although I honestly have never seen them in there (it one of DD's favorite stores).

Yes, you will find them at any office supply store. Even check online-search under "badge holder" and you can get them in all different colors. Sometimes they will come with the plastic id pouch and other times you have to buy that separately.

I used a badge holder from Staples the last time we went to Disney. I found it wasn't sturdy enough for me - the plastic carrier broke several times a day and I ran out of the spares I brought with us before the end of our trip.

This time I picked up a passporter pouch. It still has a thin cord to go around my neck put the pouch is much sturdier with a zippered compartment and the back of it has a pen holder and room for a small notebook. It is a bit bigger than the Staples Badge Holder but if it's sturdier I don't mind.

I'll be testing it out in 16 days at SeaWorld and Universal.

I never had that problem. Perhaps it depends on the brand? I don't know...they offer several different kinds so that could be the culprit. The office supply stores also sell the Passporter Pouch you are talking about (without the logo of course). Whatever works! ;)

Also...Disney sells lanyards that are cord style with the plastic sleeve attached...they are inexpensive and very very sturdy. My DD is using the same one for about 5 years now with 2-4 trips per year and no problems.

When we were at HHIR, they had a water proof box on a lanyard that is just right for room keys, etc. that was on sale (got the lime green one of course). I plan to use that and keep a room key, credit card, some cash, park tickets, photopass and ID handy and "dry."

Last year I started out with a fanny pack, etc. but it didn't take long to realize I wasn't using much that was in it and all it was really doing was making me miserable. I put the above menioned items in a zip loc bag, folded it up and kept it in my pocket. Didn't have to worry about being on water rides, and everything I needed was nice and handy.

We gave everyone a couple of snacks to put in their pockets (granola bars, etc.) and when we needed water, we bought it in the park and then held onto the bottle for a while and refilled it from the fountains. Some of them weren't all that great, but some of them had good, fairly cold water. We always tested before we filled. And the best part was, we got to travel light and avoid the bag check lines going into the parks.

i bought a small travel wallet on a cord (think passport size). but i like the plastic holder/lanyard idea. i'm going to seach ebay...:surfweb:

I just got back a couple of weeks ago from our very first trip to DW and BOY are you gonna have FU-UN!

I suggest the Disneystore.com Lanyard which comes with a plastic pocket pouch and two starter pins to trade once you get there. We are a family of four and only one out of the four broke and that was my 12 DD's. Hers broke twice and I am SURE she was tugging and pulling on it in hopes it would break because she really really really wanted a pink one we saw at the Super Walmart right near the park. She got her wish that lil turd :rolleyes1

BTW, we paid $7.99 ea for the ones I bought from the Disney Store here.

But we didn't wear them all the time. Most evenings we stuck our cards in BUTTONED back or cargo pant pockets. We all wore our Lanyards during the day to add and trade pins but at night we weren't really looking for that.

You asked if the lanyards were hot to wear... um no. It's just a one inch woven strip. It can get heavy and mildly cumbersome if you go pin crazy like I did but in all honesty it just felt like part of the experience to us. We loved it. Our lanyards are probably all of our favorite souvenirs and I bought them before we even got there. We shoved em down our shirts for riding the Tower of Terror, Rockin Roller coaster, and the Yeti one...... is that Thunder Mountain?

You also asked if you'll need to have your photopass card available and the answer is no. If you don't have yours available or forget to give yours to the photographer they will hand you a new one. I ended up with 5 seperate cards (there were 12 of us lol) but had no problem putting them all on the same CD at town square in Magic Kingdom on our last day..... no wait, THEY had puter problems so I ended up getting 5 free 5x7s. Anyhoo...

If you participate in one of the photopass shares here there might be different rules, dunno.

Now here is what I'm gonna do the next time we go (cuz I HAFTA go back asap!!)-

We are gonna use the same lanyards but replace the open top pouches with closable zipper type pouches so the kids can have a waterproof place to keep cash(12 and 16 btw). The cards are all plastic so waterproof isn't really an issue..... hey maybe we'll get the kids pre paid visa cards instead of giving them cash! There's an idea..... then again we really didn't have a problem with things getting wet.

Do ya know about the pin trading thing at all?

Oh BTW, take notes and buy as many souvenirs for loved ones back at home BEFORE you go on vacation. I saved a BUTTLOAD of money ordering that crap online :cool1:

Oh and DO NOT try to see everything the first time! You'll be exhausted and your vaca will be a blur. Besides, if you see everything there will be no need to go back right?

Have fun and RELAX!

It probably was the brand - plus I can be really rough on stuff like that.

I've got one of the waterproof boxes too. That thing was fantastic to have when we tubed the Hooch in Helen, GA last year. For anyone who doesn't know that's riding the Chattahoochee River on an inner tube. Something I will not be repeating anytime soon. :rotfl:

Does anyone carry a backpack or anything like that? And if its neccessary, then what all should we carry?

I will put all of our KTTK cards and photopass cards in the front (across chest) cell phone pouch in my Baggallini. It's the perfect place to carry them!!

These tips are great! :thumbsup2 Thanks everyone! I spent an hour on Tuesday reading a thread specifically about what kind of bag to bring and I think at least 90% praised the Baggallini! I told my sis and she ordered one the next morning, and got it yesterday! I didn't get a chance to order until Wednesday afternoon, and mine won't be here until Monday. :sad1:
Anyway, I think it will be just perfect for the camera, cell phone, water bottle, rain pouches, and a couple snacks for the kids. I am definitely going to get a lanyard, though - what a great idea to not have to fish around in the bag for the photopass, fastpass and KTTW card!
I just love these boards! I am getting so many great tips and info to make my first trip to DW extra magical!

25 days until our first trip to "the World"!

We're pretty minimalist in the parks so no bags for us. Whatever we need usually can go in a pocket. I had a Baggalini...used it once, hated it and sold it on Ebay. I should say we don't have little ones to worry about most times, so this makes it very easy not to carry a bag.
