I am looking to do 6 nights in disney in august with free dining. I know that to get the free dining you need to purchase a one day ticket. I want tickets for 6 days as well as the parkhopper/ waterpark option....Would it be cheaper to buy the tickets through disney or would it be better to get the one day from disney and the other 5 days somewhere else??? (Possibly AAA?) I really need the cheapest way to get these tickets!!! TIA!!
:thumbsup2

I have always purchased my tickets directly through Disney. Have you priced them out through the Disney site and the AAA site?

We have always purchased our tickets through a ticket broker like Undercover Tourist. There is a link through the Mousesavers website that gives an additional discount on the tickets. We've also purchased from Maple Leaf Tickets. Great service from both companies. When comparing prices, the ticket brokers have always been the cheapest for us. We also always want PH+WP for 5 people so the discount adds up. These ticket brokers also usually include tax and shipping in their prices. Disney doesn't show you the complete price until the end on their website so make sure you're comparing apples to apples when looking at prices. Shop around.

The prices are posted on the internet for tickets. If you want both your one day and 5 day tickets to have PH and the water park option, to buy them outright from Disney with taxes they would cost the following.

Prices for adult tickets with taxes included -
1 day w/PH and WPF&M - 186.38
5 days w/PH and WPF&M - 342.93
Total - 529.31

or
6 days w/PH and WPF&M - 346.13

So basically unless you can save $183.18 (or leave the PH and WP off your one day ticket and can save $76.73) your not gonna make out any better.

To note, the PH fee is $50 plus tax regardless how many days your tickets are so it's the same for the 1 day and 5 day pass and the same goes for the WP add on.

Buying a one day ticket to get free dine and buying tickets elsewhere will come out WAY more expensive then buying the tickets from disney.

Effectively you will have to purchase all of your tickets through Disney. First of all, when you purchase a package you must purchase the same type of tickets for everyone in the party and you must purchase at least a one day, one park, ticket for everbody.

For the following, I will exclude tax and give numbers for one adult only.

A one-day, one park ticket from Disney is $75

A one day hopper from Disney is $125.

A six day hopper with WPF&M from Disney is $325

A five day hopper with WPF&M from Undercover Tourist (as a discounter example) is $302.30, which is about a 7% discount. (Actually they sell the 4, 5 and 6 day for the same price.) (Also the UCT price quotes include the 6.5% tax, which I removed for this example.)

Since you must buy a 1/1 from Disney, you cost for the 1/1 plus the 5 day from UCT is $377.30 and if you buy a one day hopper plus the ticket from UCT it is $427.30.

So you will save significantly by purchasing all tickets from Disney as long as you have a package which includes dining.

Cheshire: I thought that to do the free dining one must buy the entire package-- the room for the whole time, the tickets for the whole time and dining for the whole time.

I have to agree that even with buying a 1 day ticket with no added features.. then buying parkhopper passes elsewhere would be rather costly.

But can you book a room for the whole week with dining for the whole week and only buy a 1 day ticket??

You probably could save a little using a ticket broker however it might not be worth the time searching it out.

You never had to buy tickets for the whole time, only a one day is required to make it a package

Thanks for clearing that up for me-

I am only doing the parks on a few days and glad to know I dont have to buy tickets for every day we are there.

Use only one ticket card on any one vacation.

If you get a really good deal on tickets elsewhere, then buy them for, and use them for, the whole (6 day) vacation.

You still need to order some kind of ticket (one day is fine) to go with the package and when you use your Undercover or whatever alternative ticket, do not use the package ticket at all during this vacation.

The unused package tickets can be saved essentially forever; you do not need "non-expiration" to save them with.

Since the space in your dresser drawer is valuable, unless you get a spectacular deal elsewhere, it is more convenient to order the package tickets to cover the whole vacation and not use tickets bought elsewhere.
