Just wanted to update everyone on my Cheaptickets/Ebates transaction from yesterday. I purchased 3-day park hoppers that come with a 4th day free. My confirmation email says it is an activity voucher, 4-day park hopper bonus ticket. The 6.88% cash back posted this morning on my Ebates account. Easy peasy!
Regarding the price, I did quite a bit of research and I feel like I got the best deal available right now. I needed 4 day park hoppers, 2 adults, 1 child. The price on Way.com is $792 for my tickets. The total on Cheaptickets was $784, then I'm getting $53.90 back from Ebates, so the net cost is $730.10. Our trip isn't until the weekend after Thanksgiving, so I could have waited to buy the tickets, but Ebates will send me my next check on Nov 15th for purchases made as of Sep 30th, so I wanted to get the cash to go towards our trip instead of waiting and hoping for a better deal. I got the 20% Orbitz cash back deal in Feb for my March trip and that was great, but didn't get the cash back until May. That's the only thing with Ebates, you have to wait sometimes several months to get the cash back.
For those wondering how Ebates works, basically you login to Ebates.com anytime you want to make a purchase online. Find the store you want to shop at and Ebates will show you the deals at that store and how much cash back they are offering. For example, if you want to buy something at Old Navy right now they are offering 2% cash back. You click "shop now" through Ebates and they take you to the Old Navy site. Whatever you spend at Old Navy you get 2% cash back, so if you spend $100 then you get $2 back. You MUST make sure you login and click through Ebates first or else you will not get the cash back. Another bonus is that you can still use your usual rewards credit card and get the credit for that shopping trip. For example, I used my Southwest card to buy my DLR tickets so will be getting miles for that purchase as well as the cash back through Ebates. Even though the amounts are small, they do add up and Ebates does occasionally offer double cash back or runs weekly specials, like the 20% Orbitz deal in Feb. If you see a great deal like that, jump on it because they usually don't last long!
One other note about the DLR tickets through Cheaptickets/Orbitz. They don't email you the actual tickets. Instead you get a voucher which you take to the ticket booth to exchange for your tickets. I did this in March and it was super easy. You can also exchange the voucher at any of the DLR hotels if you are staying there.
