Best way to add-on: small contract or buy and sell

I currently have 100 pts at VWL and my MF are currently 5.20 per point. I'm strongly considering BLT. Not only because we enjoy the resort (we certainly do), but also because of the low MF. I know that they will increase, but looking at the historical trends, all of the MFs tend to grow about the same rate, which means that there is a good chance the the MF and BLT will continue to be among the lowest.

If I calculate the total cost of ownership for a BLT contract, it appears to be around 5.80 per point, including purchase price and future MF, assuming MF stays the same.

So if I want to add 25 or 50 points, it seems like the best option would be to sell my VWL points and buy a 125 or 150 point BLT contract. I know I would take a hit on the commission and closing costs, but it looks like I will come out ahead in the long term, due to the lower MF.

Has anyone else done or considered something similar?

I dont know what to tell you, that is your call on what to do... but if you do sell, make sure you add on first! Otherwise, you cant add on 125 as your not a member, you would have to buy atleast 160!

I did it last winter. I bought in at VWL, small 50 point contract, to get my foot in the door. At the time, they were saying that the BLT minimum was going to 200 (more than I wanted) so I figured I would start with VWL, my 2nd choice resort and then add on at BLT in the summer.

I bought and within a week, realized I really wanted BLT, so I added on 130 points. I then begin thinking about how I would plan my trips and didn't like not being able to book everything at BLT 11 months out.

So, I sold the 50 VWL points two months later. I did take a small loss, but at least got to use the 2009 points before I sold. When I rebought those points at BLT, I got 2009 points back so it worked out.

I love it and couldn't be happier!!!
