I usually just wear croc flip flops but last summer I developed planters fasciatus and I don't think I'll be able to swing that this summer at Disneyland. Recommendations for good shoes for walking?

I have always worn sneakers in the park because I figured anything else would be too brutal.

Do you have to wear a special insert, anyway? My cousin has that, too, and she had to buy special inserts to wear with tennis shoes.

My husband and I both switch off between sneakers (Asics for me and New Balance did him) and Keen sandals. My husband has plantar fasciitis as well, and I have had foot surgery. The Keen sandals aren't the cutest things ever, but I like having my toes covered, and they dry quickly if they get wet on a water ride.

Try a decent pair of Asics running shoes. I use Asics for running and I also noticed my physical therapist wears them. And when I'm paying attention to such things at the doc's office I notice a lot of the docs/nurses wear Asics running shoes to work in all day.

By decent I mean at least the 2000 series. Your best bet is to hit up a local running specialty store so they can examine your gait and fit you correctly.

Good luck!

I really like the Skeetchers Go Fit Walking shoes. They are light and comfy. Wore them last visit with no trouble.

I love my sketchers go walks. They're slip ons. Super comfy. I also have a pair of Clark's that are Mary Jane style and those were perfect too. I can't wear flip flops or vans or converse anymore. My back and feet hurt way too much when wearing those. My DH had planter fasciatus and swears by these inserts at amazon:

His is basically gone now. Hope that helps!

I wore my Asics also. Wore airwalks a few times and was fine with those as well. My son wore his keen's most of the time and never complained

I usually wear a good pair of Nike running shoes at the parks but have recently discovered Mizuno Wave Rider running shoes, which are seriously amazing for support and cushioning.

Best advice ever for DL shoes: switch to a different pair 1/2 way through the day. Makes a gigantic difference in how your feet feel. Do it, I promise you'll be glad.

I agree with this as well!! I make my kids do it too. Its unbelievable how much this one little thing really makes a world of difference on your feet!

I also love the Skechers Go Walks.

I might have to pack mine for our upcoming trip next month.

I would be careful about getting the Skechers Go Runs. I bought 2 pairs in March/13, and had major pain in my right knee. It slowly got worse to the point in Dec where I was ready to go to the doc about it to have it checked:sad2:. So I got out my old pair of Vibrams, as I suspected the Skechers were the problem, and my knee is 85% better now that I'm wearing my Vibrams and slowly improving. So the skechers are not for everyone, and you need to be aware of this. I found a sale on the Vibrams and got myself a couple of good pairs, and they are now my fav walking shoe. The Vibrams Five Fingers are not for everyone, as they are a barefoot shoe. However my back, and knees love them. So they are now my shoe of choice when walking in general. After the problems with the Skechers, I won't wear any other type of shoe. Each person has their own fav pair of shoes, and the most important thing is what your feet are going to be most comfortable in after a long day of walking.

I'll have to add my vote to everyone who has previously posted about Sketchers "Go Walks".

They. Are. Fantastic.:thumbsup2

Hands down, the BEST Park shoes I've ever worn!

Good Luck, and let us know what you end up with!

I did this last year when I was 30 weeks pregnant. I brought FOUR pairs of shoes to rotate mid day through so that I didn't have to wear any pair two days in a row. Saved my feet!

I will third this one!!! Especially during the summer I when it's hot I like to wear my Birkenstocks during the day and change to a sneaker in the evening. Your feet get a 2nd wind and it makes all the difference in the world. :thumbsup2

I'll be bringing both my Merrell and Columbia shoes. Both are very comfortable. Those Columbias served me well at our visit to WDW last year!

I have plantar fasciitis too. Sometimes the pain was so bad I wanted to scream. A friend recommended I try SAS shoes. I bought a pair of their Free Times. After a few days of wearing them, all pain was gone and it has never come back.
I highly recommend them.

I've always worn closed-in shoes to DLR because your toes get stepped on.
