So, this is Ollie.

We just got him last week, from a rescue. He sheds way more than our previous dog so I definitely need to upgrade the vacuum. We have carpet and fake wood floors. I’m not officially allergic, but every once in a while I’ll have a day where I’m sneezy and my eyes will itch.

I’m ok with spending $200+ to get a really, really good one. I want to be able to vacuum the couch as well as probably the bed.

So, what are your recommendations?

I was saying I’m ok with spending more than that, but these are a little bit out of my range. Thank you for the suggestion, though.
Yeah they are a lot. I probably won’t be getting another when it’s time. I was able to buy mine when it was sold at the military exchange. More reasonable but they no longer sell them.

My last dog was a crazy shredder. I tried several vacuums and they either burned out or didn’t do a good job. I finally bought ‘animal’ model from Dyson. I wish I just spent the money up front and bought. Best vacuum I’ve ever owned.

Congrats on your new fur baby!

My current vacuum is a Shark. It's the cheapest possible model I could find at Walmart. I think this is the current version.

It's my third Shark. I wish I could get one to last longer, but I do feel they do a much better job on dog fur and dander than my old Dyson. I loved that my Dyson was like a puzzle and I could take it apart to trouble shoot issues, but even at its best, it never had the suction of any of my Sharks. In fact, I tested my Dyson side by side with my first Shark and it was crazy how much the Shark picked up after the Dyson. That first Shark was a pricier Rotator lift-away model, but I've found the Navigators pick up just as well. I think the two Navigators I've had also had bigger canisters and longer cords.

Current dog is a 70lb Lab/Shepherd mix. She leaves tumbleweeds of black and gray fur all over our house as well as fur that mats into carpets and rug. Her undercoat is finer and gets into everything. I had to get a robot vacuum for the hardwoods and tile on our first floor just to combat the daily accumulation. In any event, this has helped for us. Congrats on your new furry family member :)

We have two German Shepard's, one being a long hair who sheds like crazy. Plus two other dogs who shed minimally, and the cats. There's no shortage of dig hair in this house. We used to go through a vacuum a year. In 2020, I splurged on a Dyson stick vacuum, for pet hair. While I may have to empty the canister 5x+ just vacuuming the living room, it has done the best out of any that we've owned. The canister is small so it fills fast.

I (blessedly) don't have a dog hair problem but I do love a good vacuum and I've had them in tons of price-ranges over the years. Right now I'm using a mid-level Shark corded stick vac. I fully believe the corded ones have more power than the re-chargeable. There are quite a few different models available; a good place to look is Canadian Tire. They will have 3 or 4 different models and all will be in your price-range. Check out the differing sets of tools and features before you make your choice - the basic power unit (bagless sucking/motor part) will be very similar on all of them. :laundy:
