Best vacation times for points?

Is there a best time for usage of points? We really like the beach club and since our kids are home schooled, we really don't care when we book. However, our preference is the warmer months.

Would buying SSR be an option if we prefer the months of May-Aug for hitting the beach club?

The only way to guarantee availability at a resort is to own there.

BCV is very difficult to book even in the summer months. It wasn't an option for us late August last year. If you really want to stay there buy there.

As others have said buy where you want to stay. On the other hand if you want to take chances and book at exactly 7 months out and willing to waitlist you can probably get BC for some of those weeks during that time frame. Sept would be your best month to get beach club. Beach Club is one of the smaller resorts so demand is higher.

We've had the opposite experience, especially in May and later in August...never have had trouble booking a week at BCV at 7 months out...

But, sometimes you have to be flexible about which week (or which day to start your week)...and it's certainly an issue at high demand times (holidays, F&W)...

"Safer" to buy there and book 11 months out, but by no means have we found it "impossible" at 7 months out...

if you have to have the beach club, i'd own there and book at 11 months out.

but a lot depends on how disappointed you'd be if you couldn't get BCV at 7 months out. summer is not a high demand time for DVC booking in general so it would work some of the time, no question. but if you expect it to work all of the time, that might be asking a lot...

We were able to book 2BR 2Q the week of Memorial Day in 2013 at 7 months. I wouldn't expect this every year but we enjoyed out stay at the BCV last year.

From the end of January to September we've had great luck booking 6N BC at 7-month. The availability becomes much less from the end of September thru beginning of January, which caused us to purchase at BC.

It can be frustrating to own at a venue where there is so much availability year round. The plus of ownership is the 11 thru 8 month window of time when non-owners cannot reserve.
